About SSC
Staff Selection Commission or SSC came into existence in the year 1975 with the name of Subordinate Services Commission with a goal of recruiting subordinate staff for various Govt Depts. In 1977, the commission was renamed to Staff Selection Commission. The Commission was instituted in order to provide a mechanism that handled Group C jobs in all Central Government offices. With time SSC has enlarged and today SSC mechanizes Group C as well as Group B (Non – gazetted) jobs under the pay scale of 9,300 to 34,800 with grade pay of Rs. 4,200. Currently, SSC Exams form one of the popular govt recruitment exams in the country with a humongous 1 Crore applications being accepted every year for various exams.
