AIIMS PG or AIIMS Post Graduate Entrance Examination is a biannually held medical entrance exam. The entrance test is a gateway for PG admissions at AIIMS, New Delhi and 6 other AIIMS across India. This exam is conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi. The PG courses include M.D/M.S/M.Ch (6 years)/ D.M in Clinical and Basic Clinical Sciences and MDS programs in 7 AIIMS across the nation in its January and July session. The AIIMS PG 2018 (January Session) entrance test will be conducted on 12th November 2017.

Mode of Answering

Candidates can answer AIIMS PG 2018 exam in ONLINE mode i.e. computer-based test (CBT) only.

AIIMS PG 2018 Exam Date

AIIMS PG 2018 is held twice a year.

The examination date for AIIMS PG 2018 (January Session) is 12th November 2017.

However, the AIIMS PG 2018 (July Session) entrance exam is expected to be held in 1st week of May 2018.

Language of Examination

The language of answering for AIIMS PG 2018 shall be ENGLISH only.

AIIMS PG 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Here are the 3 basic requirements in order to appear AIIMS PG 2018 examination. They are as follows:

  • Graduation: Candidates must have an MBBS degree for MD/MS and BDS degree for MDS from an institution that recognized by Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India.
  • Internship: Candidates must have completed the 12 months of rotating internship on or before the specified date.
  • Scores in Graduation: Candidate belonging to General & OBC category must have secured a minimum of 55% aggregate in MBBS, while this percentage is 50% for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

How to Apply?

Application forms of AIIMS PG 2018 (January Session) are available at from the 12th September 2017. 

The applications for AIIMS PG 2018 (July Session) shall be online from March 2018 onwards.

Registration Fees

If we talk about the General category candidates, the fee to be paid will be Rs. 1000/- (Some transaction taxes are charged extra).

The ones belonging to the SC/ST category have to pay Rs. 800/- (Along with some transaction charges).

OPH Candidates are exempted from paying any sort of application fees.

Mode of fees payment is online and can be done by

  1. Credit Card.
  2. Debit Card.
  3. Net Banking.

AIIMS PG 2018 Application

AIIMS PG 2018 application form is a six step process. All these six steps are mandatory to fill in order to successfully complete the application process of AIIMS PG 2018.

Step 1– Online Registration

Once you have opened the homepage of AIIMS official website, the next step that you need to do is the “REGISTRATION”. During the registration or login, a candidate can navigate to the desired section and register for a PG program in July 2017 session. In this section, candidates must select the desired academic course for the desired program. Moreover, the basic details like Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Caste etc must be filled properly. Once you have done this, you’ll receive Login Credentials for future use. Candidates must keep it safe. You must change the password as soon as you get the login details.

Step 2– Qualification Details

Fill the academic details like Internship, Undergraduate exams etc. carefully.

Step 3– Fee payment

You can pay the fees online through your credit card, debit card or net banking. Take the receipt of the fees. Once you are done with all this, you’ll get a page bearing all the information given by you along with the Registration Number. You must take a print out of that and preserve it for future reference.

Step 4– City Choice

AIIMS PG Exam offers you to select your convenient examination center as per the seat availability. First come, first take is valid here. Moreover, you cannot change the selected city. Therefore, you must choose it wisely.

Step 5– Upload Images

Photograph and Signature are required to upload in JPEG or JPG format. The size must be between 10KB and 100KB.

Step 6– Registration Slip

Candidates must take a printout of the Registration slip after the successful registration.

Admit Card             

Admit card of AIIMS PG 2018 (January Session) exam will be available on the official site from the 27th October 2017.

The admit card of July Session shall be available from 4th Week of April 2018.

Exam Pattern

Exam pattern for MD/MS programs

The AIIMS PG 2018 entrance exam for MD/MS courses shall be 3-hour long computer-based test (CBT). The test will have 200 Multiple choice questions (MCQs) with 1 mark being awarded for every correct answer.

Exam pattern for MDS programs

Unlike the MD/MS course, the AIIMS PG 2018 entrance exam for MDS programs shall be 1 ½ hours long with a total of 90 questions. Each question will carry 1 mark each.

For AIIMS PG 2018 (July Session), results shall be out by last week of May 2018.


Basically, the cut-off of this exam depends on various factors such as: number of applicants, number of seats, difficulty level of the exam and marking scheme etc. According to AIIMS New Delhi, candidates belonging to any caste category, have to score a minimum of 50 percentile marks in AIIMS PG 2018 in order to qualify it. Merit list is prepared on the basis of percentile secured by the candidates.

According to eligibility criteria, the UG percentage should be 55% ,to appear in AIIMS PG exam ,but any UG student has aggregate marks about 54.90% ,is he would be allowed to appear in exam ?
