    • GATE Result 2019 has been declared today on 15 March   2019. Candidates can check their result on following link:

    • Result of GATE 2019 can be checked by entering enrollment id/email id/registration id and pass word.
    • Candidates can download score card from 20 March         2019  to 31 May 2019.
    • Qualified candidates of GATE 209 can get admission in PG         Course of Engineering and Architecture in IITs, NITs,IIITs     and CFIs. PSUs also recruit based on score card of GATE.
    • Validity of score card of GATE 2019 is up to 15 March 2022.


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is a national-level entrance examination for admission into the post-graduate programs of the top Engineering institutes in the country, including the IITs and IISc. GATE is conducted by the IITs or IISc every year on a rotation basis. The GATE score remains valid for 3 years and is considered by the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other government organizations for their recruitment procedure as well. Almost a million students appear for GATE every year.

GATE 2019 Exam Date

Medium of Examination

GATE exam 2019 will be conducted in ENGLISH only. 

Mode of Examination

GATE exam 2019 shall be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and thus shall be conducted online.

Conducting Institution

GATE 2019 shall be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras i.e. IIT-Madras.

GATE 2019 Eligibility Criteria


Candidates from either of the following countries can apply for the GATE Examination:

  • India or
  • Nepal or
  • Bangladesh or
  • Sri-Lanka or
  • Singapore or
  • Ethiopia or
  • The United Arab Emirates.

Graduation Degree

The candidate must have completed his/her graduation (bachelor’s degree) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination from a recognized college or university. Candidates with the following degrees or in the final year of these can apply for GATE 2019:

  • BE/B.Tech./B.Pharma
  • Arch
  • BSc (Research)/BS
  • MSc/MA/MCA
  • Integrated ME/M.Tech (post BSc)
  • Integrated ME/M.Tech/Dual Degree Program (B.Tech + M.Tech)
  • Integrated MSc/ BS/MS
  • Integrated BS/MS
  • Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch)

GATE 2019 Age Limit

There is no age limit for taking GATE exam.

GATE 2019 Exam Pattern 

The duration of GATE 2019 will be 3 hours or 180 minutes.

The paper shall have both objective-type questions (MCQs)and numerical answer type questions (NATs).

There shall be 65 questions from 3 areas in the paper:

  • Engineering Mathematics (15%),
  • General Aptitude (15%)
  • Engineering Discipline (70%).

There are 23 different papers available in GATE, out of which a candidate can sit for only one. General Aptitude is common across all pape₹

While there is no negative marking for the NATs, 1/3rd and 2/3rd mark will be deducted for wrong answers for the 1 mark and 2 marks MCQs respectively.

Candidates are not allowed to carry any physical calculator with them. There shall be a virtual calculator that they can use during the exam. 

How to Apply?

GATE application forms shall be available from 1st September on the official GATE portal.

The last date to apply for the examination shall be 21st September 2019 while an extended date of 1st October 2019 shall also be provided.

Candidates can make the payment online (Netbanking/credit card/debit card). The application fee is the same for all International candidates, irrespective of category.

Documents to be Uploaded

  • Photograph – JPG/JPEG; Maximum 480X640 Pixels.
  • Signature – JPG/JPEG – Maximum 160X560 Pixels.
  • Caste or Disability certificate (PDF format) in case of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates; Size:10-300 KB
  • Provisional certificate (PDF format) in case of final year candidates; Size:10-300 KB.

Admit Card

GATE admit card 2019 shall be available in 1st week of January 2019. The admit cards can be downloaded from the official website.

GATE 2019 Answer Key

The answer key for GATE is made available on the official website just a few days after the exam every year. The GATE 2019 answer key shall be available in February 2019, after the exam.


GATE results 2019 has been declared on 15th March 2019 on the official website.

GATE 2019 Score Card

The candidates can download their GATE 2019 scorecard right from the official website from 20 March till  31 May 2019.

The scorecard remains valid for 3 years from the day of the declaration of the results ie up to 15 March 2019 ie 15 March 2019 to 15 March 2022. 

GATE 2019 Counselling

The counselling for various institutes shall begin in April 2019. The process is separate for each IIT and thus the candidates need to apply separately to each. In NITs, there is central counselling for admission to their post-graduate programs.
