Introduction 


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is a national-level entrance examination mandatory for admission and/or financial assistance to the Post-graduate programs and direct Doctoral programs of the top Engineering/Technology/Architecture institutes in the country including the NITs, IITs and IISc. GATE is conducted jointly by the IITs (Seven IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and IISc, Bangalore every year on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE. The GATE score remains valid for 3 years and is currently being considered by many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other government organizations for their recruitment procedure as well. Almost a million students appear for GATE every year. This year the exam is being conducted by IIT Kharagpur.

Medium of Examination


GATE exam 2022 will be conducted in ENGLISH only. 

Mode of Examination


GATE exam 2022 shall be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and thus shall be conducted online.

Conducting Institution


GATE 2022shall be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi i.e. IIT-Delhi.

GATE 2022 Eligibility Criteria


Nationality


Candidates from either of the following countries can apply for the GATE Examination:

  • India or
  • Nepal or
  • Bangladesh or
  • Sri-Lanka or
  • Singapore or
  • Ethiopia or
  • The United Arab Emirates.

Education Qualifications


The candidate must have completed his/her graduation (bachelor’s degree) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination from a recognized college or university. Candidates with the following degrees or in the final year of these can apply for GATE 2020:

  • B.E/B.Tech./B.Pharm
  • B.Arch.
  • B.Sc. (Research)/B.S.
  • M.Sc./M.A./MCA or equivalent
  • Integrated M.E./M.Tech (post B.Sc.)
  • Integrated M.E./M.Tech/Dual Degree Program (B.Tech + M.Tech) (post Diploma or 10+2)
  • Integrated M.Sc/B.S./M.S.
  • Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch) eg. AMIE.
  • Pharm. D. (after 10+2)
  • M.B.B.S.

Note: The candidates who have enrolled for certification equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. with Professional Society Institutions (IE, ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIChemE, IIM, IIE, etc) after May 31, 2013 but meets other eligibility criteria, are also eligible to apply for GATE 2020. However, the eligibility of such candidates is subjected to further orders of the court.

GATE 2022 Age Limit


There is no age limit for appearing in GATE exam.

GATE 2022 Exam Pattern 


The duration of GATE 2022 will be 3 hours or 180 minutes.

The paper shall have both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.

There shall be 65 questions from 3 areas in the paper:

  • Engineering Mathematics (15%),
  • General Aptitude (15%)
  • Engineering Discipline (70%).

There are 25 different papers available in GATE, out of which a candidate can sit for only one during any one session. General Aptitude is common across all papers.

While there is no negative marking for the NATs, 1/3rd and 2/3rd marks will be deducted for wrong answers for the 1 mark and 2 marks MCQs respectively.

Candidates are not allowed to carry any physical calculator with them. There will be a virtual calculator that they can use during the exam. 

How to Apply?


  • GATE application forms are available on the official GATE portal.
  • The last date to apply for the examination shall  yet to be notified.
  • Candidate has to enter the ID No. of any one of the following: Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License.
  1. The link to apply:http://www.iitkgp.ac.in/ 
  2. A page will appear where in Enrollment ID/Email Address and GOAPS password (selected during registration) are to be entered.
  3. A new page will appear in which the following information is to be filled in:(i) Personal information (name, parents’ name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents’ mobile number, etc.)[Name of candidate must be as recorded as in the Degree/Provisional certificate issued by the Head of the Department/Institute where he/she is studying.](ii) Address of communication including PIN.(iii) Eligibility Degree Details.(iv) College Name and address with PIN code.(v) Subject of GATE paper(vi) Choice of exam cities(vii) Documents to be uploaded
    • Degree/course completion certificate/professional certificate in scanned PDF format. [Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate/Certificate from the Head of the Department or Institute (as mentioned in Appendix A of the Information Bulletin)].
    • Caste or Disability certificate (scanned PDF format) in case of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates; Size: 10-300KB.
    • Dyslexic certificate in scanned PDF format (if applicable).
    • Photograph – JPG/JPEG; Maximum 480×640 Pixels, high quality.
    • Signature – JPG/JPEG – Maximum 160×560 Pixels, Minimum 80×280 Pixels, good quality.
  4. Details of valid ID (same ID to be produced during exam).
  5. Net-banking/debit card/credit card details for fee payment.
  6. After filling up all above information and uploading of documents, submission button is to be clicked which will direct the candidate to the payment page. After completion, the status of the application form can be checked and understood as per the following: Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, Admit Card ready for download etc.
  7. If rectification might be required, needful is to be done before submission.

  • GATE 2022 Application Fee

The application fee for the GATE 2022 shall be as follows:

Candidates can make the payment online (Net banking/credit card/debit card). The application fee is same for all the International candidates, irrespective of category.

Examination Cities


  • A zone wise tentative list of cities have been given in Table 4.3 of Official Bulletin .
  • Candidate can choose 3 Cities from the list of examination cities given in Table 4.3 of Official Bulletin.
  • 1st and 2nd choices must be from the same GATE zone and 3rd choice can be from any listed cities.

Note : Due to any operational constraints, the GATE Committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing city, and consequent of it, can allot a city that may not be from any of the choices selected by the candidate. Changes/updates can be viewed on the official website.

Admit Card


GATE admit card will be available after filling up of the application form and status of application will appear Admit card ready for download. The admit cards can be downloaded from the official website.

Candidates must bring a print out of the admit card during the examination.

GATE 2022 Answer Key


The answer key for GATE is made available on the official website just a few days after the exam every year. The answer key for GATE 2022 will be released  after the exam.

GATE 2022 Score Card


The candidates can download their score card from the official website between April and May 2022.

The scorecard remains valid for 3 years from the day of the declaration of the results.

If any candidate misses to download their score card on time, they can access the same with a fee of 500 rupees from the official site. until (date to be notified).

GATE 2022 Counselling


The counselling for various institutes shall begin in ( dates to be notified later on) . The process is separate for each IIT and thus the candidates need to apply separately to each. In NITs, there is central counselling for admission to their post-graduate programs.
