The eligibility criteria for CAT 2019 Examination refers to the minimum educational qualification one must satisfy to apply for CAT. CAT or common admission test is an annually held premier MBA entrance exam in India. The article details the minimum eligibility requirements mandatory to appear for CAT.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2019


Academic Qualification

A candidate should have completed his/her Bachelor’s degree or equivalent program in any stream from a recognized university.

The minimum percentage required marks in the Bachelor’s degree is 50% or equivalent CGPA for general and NC-OBC category candidates. For Reserved category candidates, a minimum aggregate percentage of 45% in Bachelors is required.

For candidates who are awarded grades or CGPA, the conversion of grades or CGPA will be according to the process certified by the University or Institute.

The academic qualification details of CAT Exam Eligibility is tabulated as follows:

Note 1: A recognized university is one which is constituted by an Act of the Central or State Legislature. It also includes any university or institute which is established by an act of Parliament or is declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956.

Note 2: In case of Universities which award grades or CGPA, but do not have a procedure for conversion of grades to the percentage, the equivalent percentage will be calculated by the given process:

(Candidate’s CGPA/ Maximum CGPA) X 100 = Equivalent Percentage

Final Year Students

Candidates in the final year of the bachelor’s program can also apply.

Age Limit

There is no age limit to appear for CAT. However, certain age restrictions may be applicable based on the institute under consideration.

Number of Attempts

There is no limit on exam attempts for CAT.

Reservation of Seats


The category wise Seat Reservation in IIMs is tabulated as follows:
