Introduction
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level entrance examination that opens the pathway to various Post Graduate Engineering, Technology or Architecture Programmes (M.Tech, ME, MS, Direct Ph.D.) at top-level Institutes of the Country. It is a computer based test (CBT) conducted annually by the IITs and IISc to for PG admissions. Owing to the huge syllabus, the GATE exam is considered as one of the toughest exams of the Country. Apart from providing admission to IIT, IISc, IISER and other reputed Institutions of India, the GATE score card also serves as one of the criteria for recruiting candidates to various Government Organisations or the National/State Public Sector Undertakings. Around 9.23 lacs candidates apply each year for GATE exam. GATE scores are valid for 3 years.

GATE 2018 Organizing Institute
GATE Exam 2018 will be organized by IIT- Guwahati.
GATE 2018 Exam Date
The GATE exam will be held on 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th of February, 2018 in two sessions: Morning Session (9 am – 12 noon) and Afternoon Session (2 pm – 5 pm).
Language of Examination
GATE exam will be conducted in English language only.
Type of Examination
GATE exam is a Computer-based Online Exam.
GATE 2018 Eligibility
Nationality
Apart from an Indian Citizen, Candidates of the following Nationalities can apply for GATE 2018 Examination:
- Nepal.
- Bangladesh.
- Sri-Lanka.
- Singapore.
- Ethiopia.
- The United Arab Emirates.
Educational Qualification
Candidates who are currently in their final year of study or have already completed one of the following degrees are eligible for GATE 2018:
- BE/B.Tech./B.Pharma.
- B.Arch.
- BSc (Research)/BS.
- MSc/MA/MCA.
- Integrated ME/M.Tech (post BSc).
- Integrated ME/M.Tech/Dual Degree Program (B.Tech + M.Tech).
- Integrated MSc/ BS/MS.
- Integrated BS/MS.
- Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch).
In the case of Integrated M.E/M.Tech (post-B.Sc), candidates in the 2nd year of study or onwards are eligible for GATE 2018.
Age Limit
There is no age limit for GATE examination.
Backlogs
Candidates with backlogs (arrears/failed subjects) in any of the papers are also applicable, provided they upload a copy of any of the Mark sheet of the final exam issued from the Institute where they are studying.

GATE 2018 Fees
The application fee for the GATE 2018 Examination according to Category was as follows:

SC/ST/PWD Candidates | Rs. 750 |
All other candidates | Rs. 1500 |
International Candidates | US Dollar 50 |
The Category (SC/ST) is NOT applicable for International candidates. The application fee is Uniform for all International Candidates.
Modes of Payment for GATE acceptable include following:
- Net Banking
- Credit Card
- Debit Card
- e-Challan.
Photograph and Signature Specifications
- Scanned color photograph (5-200 kb).
- Scanned signature (5 – 150 kb).
- Scanned left thumb impression (2 – 150 kb).
- Scanned category certificate (10 – 300kb in PDF).
- Scanned provisional certificate or pre – final year mark sheet or degree (10 – 300kb in PDF).

GATE 2018 Admit Card
GATE 2018 Admit Card have been issued on 5th January 2018, as per the official website. No Admit Cards will be sent via post.

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern
GATE 2018 exam will be a computer-based test (CBT) conducted online. There will be 65 questions in the total of the type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) only.
The duration of GATE examination will be 3 hours. The maximum marks allotted for GATE Examination is 100. There will be 3 categories of questions in the GATE exam:
- Engineering Mathematics.
- Quantitative Aptitude.
- Engineering Discipline.
For each wrong answer, 1/3 marks will be deducted for questions carrying 1 mark and 2/3 marks will be deducted for questions carrying 2 marks. There is no negative marking for NAT questions.
