1 The exam conducting body of Thapar university vide notification dated 18/08/2021 has notified that:

(i) The 10+2 PCB candidates that seats have been allocated in
BTech – Biotechnology and BTech – Biomedical Engineering programmes on the basis of
10+2 PCB merit.

(ii) Candidates can visit https://webkiosk.thapar.edu/Admission to check
their allotted branch with Login ID as the registered email ID and password as the last
five digits of TIET application number (Numeric part of the TIET application number).

2 Admission notice to MCA programme

(i) It is for the information of all the aspirants that there are few vacant seats available in MCA programme. These vacant seats shall be filled on first come first serve basis till 30.08.2021.
(ii) Candidates can apply online at https://admission.thapar.edu/ and can contact the Head of Department at hcsed@thapar.edu.

Introduction

Thapar University is located at Patiala in Punjab. It is a deemed technical university. Formerly known as the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), the university was born under the aegis of Mr. Karam Chand Thapar in the year 1956. In 1986, TIET was granted deemed university status by an act of UGC. As of now, TU proffer courses in engineering (both UG & PG), computer application, management, Doctorate and basic & social sciences. Though presently, the university offers a variety of courses still, principally it remains a technical university.

Location

Thapar University is situated in Patiala, a principal city of the Punjab state of India. The University campus is located in the heart of the city and is well connected with road routes and public transport system with the rest of the city.

Ranking

Being a pioneer in the field of the technical education, Thapar University’s Engineering division holds a position in the list of the top technical institutes of the country. In 2015, Thapar University was placed at 25^th spot in the list of best technical institutes by Outlook magazine. India Today placed Thapar University at 17^th spot in the list of the top technical institutes of the year 2015. In our rankings, the institute was placed at 23^rd spot in the list of best technical institutes of 2016.

Thapar University offers a variety of degree programs at all three levels of higher studies i.e. UG, PG, and Doctorate. Following are the major categories of courses offered.

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) – Master of Science (M.Sc) Dual degree program.
Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).
B.E – M.B.A Dual degree program.

Postgraduate Studies

Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A).

Master of Bussiness Administration (M.B.A).
Master of Science (M.Sc).
Master of Arts (M.A).

Admission Procedure

UG Studies

Admission to B.Tech Program (except Biotechnology) at Thapar University is based on candidate’s performance in JEE (Main) 2017.
However, in the case of B.Tech in Biotechnology, admissions are based on NEET (UG) – 2017 merit.

The same criteria are applicable for B.Tech + M.B.A program admission.

For lateral entry to 2nd year of B.Tech, Thapar University conducts an entrance exam called LEET (UG).

PG Studies

M.E/M.Tech Program

Admission to M.Tech programs at Thapar University is through GATE scores.

M.C.A Program

M.C.A admissions at Thapar University are based on candidate’s performance in 10th, 12th and graduation studies. The same is true for 2nd-year lateral entry.

M.Sc/M.A Programs

For M.Sc admissions, Thapar University uses candidate’s performance in 12th standard in combination with his/her performance in graduation studies in a 40:60 ratio.

In the case of M.A programs, candidate’s performance in 12th and graduation is considered, however, there is no fixed ratio in which these numbers are used.

M.B.A Admissions

For M.B.A admissions, Thapar University considers a candidate’s performance in CAT/XAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT/NMAT, clubbed with his performance in Group discussions and Personal Interview.

Doctorate Studies

For P.hD programs at Thapar, admissions are based on an entrance test and interview conducted by the university itself.

Tuition Fees

One time Charges

At the time of admission, a candidate has to bear the following expenses:

Admission Fee: Rs. 11,000.
University Security Fee: Rs. 10,000.
Alumni Fee: Rs. 1000.

Hence, a total of Rs. 22,000 is to be paid at the time of admission.

How is the Campus?

Thapar University has a 250 – acre green and fully – residential campus in the heart of the city of Patiala. With great cleanliness as an asset, the campus offers a pool of facilities to its residents. The campus has a great auditorium, a sports complex, gym and other basic immunities.

Hostels

Thapar University has a total of 6 boys’ hostels inside the campus. Every hostel embraces a reading room, a gym, and a common room. There is also a mess attached to each hostel.

Sports Complex

Much like the state of Punjab, Thapar University has some great sports facilities in its bag. The college campus encompasses an athletics track, basketball courts, football grounds, and some indoor games.
