Introduction
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) constituted by by the Government of India annually conducts, SSC CHSL- Combined Higher Secondary ( 10+2) Level Examination. The exam is conducted in 3-tiers for recruiting Clerical staff for different departments of the Central Government under various ministries. The official notification for SSC CHSL Exam, 2023 has been released.

SSC CHSL 2023 Exam Date
The Exam will be held on the following dates:

Mode of Examination
SSC CHSL 2023 Tier 1 will be conducted in online (computer-based Examination)
SSC CHSL 2023 Tier 2 will be conducted in offline mode in descriptive format.
Medium of Examination
The questions will be set in: English, Hindi and any language opted by the candidate in the application form, as given at Annexure-XVI of official advertisement for Part-II, III & IV of Tier-I examination.
SSC CHSL 2023 Eligibility
Nationality
SSC CHSL applicant must be under any one of the below stated category:
(a) Indian citizen, or
(b) Subject of Bhutan, or
© Subject of Nepal , or
(d) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Burma and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire, The United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Vietnam and Ethiopia with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Note : (i) Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c) & (d) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
(ii) A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after, the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
Educational Qualification ( As on 01/08/2023)
For Data Entry Operator (DEO)/ DEO Grade ‘A’) in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Ministry of Culture: 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.
For LDC/ JSA, DEO (except DEOs in C&AG & other ministries as given above :The candidate must have passed higher secondary education i.e., class 12 or any Equivalent Exam from a recognized board/ University.
Note : Candidates appearing for 12th exam are also eligible to apply for the exam, but they must have their qualifying certificates by 1st August 2023.For more information, please refer to para 8 of the advertisement.
Age Limit (As on 01/08/2023)
- The applicant must be between 18 to 27 years of age as on 01/08/2023 i.e. Candidate must born not before 02-08-1996 and not later than 01-08-2005 are eligible to apply.
- However, the Candidates belonging to reserved category gets relaxation in their age limit as follows:

The candidate can choose to pay the SSC CHSL 2023 application fees in any one of the following methods:
· BHIM UPI or,
· Net Banking, or
· by using Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit cards, or
· In cash at SBI Branches by generating SBI Challan.
Note : Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor will it be adjusted against any other examination or selection

Note : (i)The photograph should not be more than three months old from the date of publication of the Notice of Examination i.e. 09 May,2023.
(ii) Photograph should be without cap, spectacles and The frontal view of the face should be clearly visible.
(iii) Specimen of photographs delineating photograph acceptable/ photograph not acceptable is also given at Annexure-V of the official advertisement.
(iii) In case of the illegible/ blurred signature, application will be rejected.
Centres of Examination
· A candidate has to opt for three centres, in the order of priority, within the same region.
· No request for change of Centre will be considered later under any stage/ Tier(s), circumstances. Hence, the candidates should select the centers, carefully and indicate the same correctly in their applications.
- SSC will Endeavour to accommodate the candidates in centers opted by them. However, the Commission reserves the right to cancel any Centre and ask the candidate to opt for other centre to appear in examination.
- Commission also reserves the right to divert candidates of any centre to some other Centre to take the examination.

How to Apply for SSC CHSL 2023?
Candidates can fill the application form for SSC CHSL through online mode only.
The registration starts from 09 May, 2023 and be active up to 08 June, 2023.
Steps of Applying
Part I : Registration ( One Time)
The part I is the registration and only one time. It requires certain basic credentials of the candidate including verification of mobile Number.
Please keep ready following documents before starting Registration:-
(i) Mobile Number (to be verified through OTP)
(ii) Email ID (to be verified through OTP).
(iii) Aadhaar Number. If, Aadhaar Number is not available, please give one of the
following ID Numbers. (Candidate has to show the original document at a
later stage):
(a) Voter ID Card (b) PAN
(c) Passport
(d) Driving License
(e) School/ College ID
(f) Employer ID (Govt./PSU/Private) (iv) Disability Certificate Number, if you are a person with benchmark disability
(v) Information about the Board, Roll Number and Year of Passing the Matriculation (10th) Examination.
For one time registration follow these steps:
Step 1 : Go on link : https://ssc.nic.in
Step 2 :Home page of SSC will appear. Go on Right side box and click ”New User’‘
Step 3 : A new page will appear where in enter basic details and save it.
Step 4 : Then fill the “Additional and Contact Details”
Step 5 : Upload Photo and signature details and submit.
Step 6 : A page will appear containing other details and Registration Number and take print of it and keep in safe custody for future reference.
Notes :- (i) Certain critical details (e.g. Aadhaar Number, name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth etc.) are required to be entered twice, in the relevant columns of the Registration Form to avoid any mistakes in filling up of the form. If, there is mismatch between the original and to verify data columns, it will not be accepted and an indication to this effect will be given in red text.
(ii) If, after submission of Basic information, registration process is not completed within 14 days, your data will be deleted from the system.
(iii) After completion of registration process, ‘Basic Details’ can be changed only twice. Therefore, it is advised to be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS while making registration.
(iv) It is strongly advised that name, father’s name,mother’s name and date of birth are to be filled in strictly as per details recorded in matriculation examination certificate details. In case of incorrect information or mismatch, candidature may get cancelled.
Part II : Filling up the Application form
Step 1: Go on link : https://ssc.nic.in
Step 2 :Home page of SSC will appear. Go on Right side box and Log in with User Name and password.
Step 3 : Fill the credentials
Step 4 :Make Payment of Application fee( as detailed above)
Step 5 Upload photo graph and signature
Step 6 : Take print out of the Complete Application form
Note : – (a) Candidates must not send the printed application form to SSC office under any circumstance.
(b) The Application process is completely online.
(c) For examination centres , refer page 11 to 13 of Broucher. Candidate may opt for 03 centres in order of the priority within the same region.
(d) No request for change of Exam Centre will be considered later on under any circumstances , therefore candidate are advised to select the centres of examination thoughtfully and carefully.
SSC CHSL Admit Card 2023
The SSC CHSL 2023 Tier 1 Admit Card will be available tentatively 15 days prior to date of examination. To down load log on Updates: Updates : SSC
For The SSC CHSL 2023 Tier 2 Admit Card will notified later on.
The admit card will be made available on the official website through online mode only in PDF format from website of respective regional centre.
Candidates are required to download and take a print of their admit card as it will not be sent through post.

Note :- (i) In the question papers, where ever required , for weights and measures, metric system will be used.
(ii) The questions will be set in: English, Hindi and any language opted by the candidate in the application form, as given at Annexure-XVI of official advertisement for Part-II, III & IV of Tier-I examination.
(iii) There is no provision of re evaluation or re checking in the examination. As such , no correspondences will be entertained for this.
TIER 1 ( Computer based Test)– (objective type) – Section wise split up:
Marking: 2 marks per question
Negative marking: For each wrong answer, 0.5 marks will be deducted.
Duration: 60 Minutes (80 Minutes for candidates eligible for scribe as per Para 8.1.
Syllabus: Refer para 13.10 on page No 18 & 19 of Advertisement.

Marking: 100 marks in total
Minimum cut-off: Minimum of 33% in this section is required
Duration: 60 minutes ((20 minutes compensatory time will also be provided to the candidates eligible for scribe as per Para 8.1 and 8.2 above).
The Paper will comprise of writing Essay/ Letter/ Application/ Precis etc
(Skill test/Typing test)
· Skill Test/ Typing Test for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted on the computers provided by the Commission or its authorized agency.
- Skill Test/ Typing Test will be conducted in the cities where Regional Offices of the Commission are located or as decided by the Commission.
- Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test.
- Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.
- Errors in the Skill Test will be calculated up to 2 decimal places.
As per the type of post applied, the tests will be conducted as follows.

Note : For the post of Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG):The ‘speed of 15000 (Fifteen Thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.
SSC CHSL Result 2023
After the results for Tier 1 &Tier 2 have been released, the qualifying candidates will be eligible to attend Tier 3 examination.
The final result of the exam will be declared only after the commencement of the Tier 3 examination.

Question: Is there any interview in SSC CHSL?
Answer: SSC CHSL consists of two Tiers namely Written Test and Skill Test. There are no interviews in this examination.
Question: Do SSC CHSL exams happen twice a year?
Answer: SSC CHSL happens only once a year. It takes approximately a year for the completion of the whole process i.e. Tier 1 and then Tier 2 in SSC CHSL.
