INTRODUCTION
IIT Gandhinagar is among the eight new IITs established in 2008 announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD). The institute began operating in a temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College. It was mentored by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay(IITB). The Institute IIT-GN was included in the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The first batch of students was admitted to three programmes: Mechanical Engineering,Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

LOCATION
The Institute is located approximately 26 km from Ahmedabad Airport and 28 km from Ahmedabad Railway Station at Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Ahmedabad is well connected via trains, air and Road from all the major cities of India.
The Institute IIT-GN is located on the banks of the river Sabarmati at just a 20 minute drive from Ahmedabad Airport and approximately 45 min-1 hr drive from Ahmedabad Railway Station.

RANKING OF IIT-GN
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) climbed 16 positions to be ranked at number 35 in the overall category and retained its number 24 rank in the engineering category by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of Year -2020.
Also, IIT-GN is rated India’s first 5-star GRIHA LD (Green) campus for minimizing the negative impact on the environment. It has been declared India’s first 5-star campus for ensuring food safety and promoting healthy eating.

CAMPUS OF IIT-GN
The campus is spread in 400 acres on the bank of river Sabarmati.
The campus has world-class academic infrastructure and hostel is largely self-sufficient with most daily needs and services available within the campus.
The students are accommodated in six different hostels. In each hostel, a resident caretaker follows up on all routine maintenance issues. Each student is issued basic furniture including chair, study table, cot and mattress at the beginning of the academic year. Students in all hostels have access to a common room, laundry and canteen facilities within their respective hostels.
There is a general store within the hostel premises to provide the students with basic necessities like stationary, snacks and toiletries. Sports facilities include basketball court, cricket ground, football ground.
IIT-GN has centrally air conditioned and well furnished hostels which are designed to inviting the students to engage in interactions across disciplines and to create a healthy culture. The hostels are a place of constant innovation, with facilities aimed at overall development of the students. Dining facilities are available in hostel messes. Other amenities within the hostel premises are:
● Convenience shops and eateries serving a variety of cuisines, snacks, and daily needs.
● Night-time air conditioning in all hostel rooms.
- Mini Library (providing a reading zone to students within the hostel premises).
● Laundry services included in the “Mess and Laundry” charges with unlimited washing and ironing facility.
● A pantry on each floor of each hostel equipped with refrigerator, microwave oven and induction stove.
● Student lounge, with recreation facilities, such as a snooker table.
● Music room, art room, and common rooms.
● Sports courts and facilities for student recreation.
● A newly built clay studio for expression of student creativity.
● Distributed spaces for student into tinkering and innovations.
Computing and Connectivity: IIT-GN has state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, labs with networked multi-core computers and a high-performance computing (HPC) platform for advanced research and teaching in computational areas.
Labs: The Institute has cutting-edge teaching and research laboratories in numerous areas, including electronics, robotics, physics, chemistry, image processing, fiber-optics, biomedical engineering, VLSI, power systems, civil engineering, material sciences, nanotechnology, etc., to expose students to the latest research in different areas of science and engineering.
Library: The library possesses a rich collection of books, research journals, and electronic resources in varied areas. Library electronic resources are accessible from anywhere on campus.
Sports: Grounds for football, cricket, outdoor courts for volleyball, badminton and basketball, as well as indoor facilities for, table-tennis, gym, etc. are available. A brand-new sports complex is nearing completion with Olympic size swimming pool, a modern gym, squash courts, a rock-climbing wall, etc. Sports coaches are available to train students. Participation in sports activities is highly encouraged.
Bank and Post: Canara Bank is located within the campus and postal services through Indian Post and private logistic agencies are also available at the campus on payment basis.
Award-winning Campus: IIT-GN campus is the first campus in the country to receive a five-star GRIHA-LD rating for its numerous sustainability and energy efficiency measures. The institute is the first and only academic campus to be awarded a five-star Eat Right Campus award by FSSAI for its hygienic, safe, healthy, nutritious, local & seasonal food choices.
Medical Facilities: A 24-hour ambulance is available for emergencies. Qualified medical practitioners are available on the institute premises for several hours every day. Hospitalization expenses of all students are covered under a medical insurance policy. Two trained male nurses are on staff full-time to provide emergency first aid and routine medical services. A fully equipped Physiotherapy Centre is also operational on campus.
Counselling Services: A dedicated counselling team of counsellors are available on campus. They oversee the emotional and psycho-social wellbeing of the entire campus community, including students, staff and faculty.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
B Tech
The admission to B. Tech is done through the Joint Entrance Examination JEE( Advanced) conducted by one of the IIT turn by turn and Allocation of seats is centrally done by JOSAA.

M Tech
For M. Tech, Minimum of 55% marks/ 5.5 (on a 10 point scale) in B.E. /B.Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent in appropriate branches is required (50% marks for SC /ST).
Also, candidates who have a valid GATE score (at the time of interview/written test) are eligible to apply for M.Tech.
GATE is not required for application to M.Tech. on a part-time basis or for the PGDIIT programme.
B.Tech. graduates from the IITs with CGPA/CPI of 8.0 or above (on scale of 10) would be eligible to admission without having to appear in GATE.
Candidates applying for the regular M.Tech. programme and who are sponsored by their employers do not require GATE score and can be considered as sponsored candidates provided:
(a) candidate must be in service for more than 2 years
(b) employer grants 2 years of study leave and,
(c) employer undertakes to financially support the candidate for the entire duration of 2 years course.
Note: The eligibility criteria mentioned above is minimum and the disciplines may use higher cut-off levels for shortlisting. Candidates belonging to EWS/SC/ST/PD.
M Sc
Admission to MSc in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics disciplines is through the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.
Admission to the Cognitive Science program is through the Institute’s own written test and interview process.
MA
Admission to MA Program is done on the basis of entrance test and interview ( to be held at Gandhinagar).
The Institute will invite a limited number of candidates for a written test and interview based on the academic records and aptitude for graduate study in the humanities and social sciences.
The final selection will be based on all of above, viz., academic records, aptitude for graduate studies, written test and interview.
Notes: (a) The Institute may also exercise the option of offering admission to a few outstanding candidates based on academic records without calling them for written test and/or interview.
(b) Candidates appearing for the Test/Interview will be reimbursed any amount exceeding Rs. 750/- for to and fro single second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the Institute /venue of the Test / Interview.
PGDIIT
Application procedure for the PGDIIT programme is the same as for the MTech programme, however, the PGDIIT programme is only for one year and does not have any research credit requirements.
PhD
For PhD , at least 55% marks or 5.5 CPI marks is required in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. This eligibility criteria is minimum at Institute level.

Due to extraordinary situation arises due to pandemic, this year (For academic Session 2020-21) IIT Gandhinagar has split the first year of in an innovative manner into three terms covering the essential core curriculum of the first year and also focusing on the overall development of students.
Term I will be conducted in an online mode; the mode of other terms will be announced in due course.

## Fees amount received by the Institute from JOSAA will be adjusted against this amount and the balance amount will only be paid.
Notes: (i) The institute has extended the full tuition fee waiver/reimbursement facility to UG students having annual parental income of up to Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Students whose family income is between Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 5.0 lakhs per annum, shall pay only 1/3rd of the tuition fee.
(ii) The students whose annual family income is less than Rs. 9,00,000/- shall have access to interest free loan under the Vidyalaxmi scheme for the total portion of the tuition fee payable.
(ii) Further, students may request financial support as scholarships, grants, and loans.
SCHOLARSHIP–
IIT Gandhinagar extends the various scholarships/loans to the financial suppressed candidates based on merit.

A summary of financial assistance to students as per their need in various forms are detailed as under:-
1. Merit scholarships:
Rs. 2 Lakh per year per student (for 4 years) for all students admitted to the BTech program at IITGN and holding a JEE Advanced rank of 1000 (or better) or having represented India in any recognized international Olympiad.
2. Donor Scholarships:
Donor Scholarship as listed here-under supports various activities including international and domestic internships, special projects, and financial need.

4 Interest-free short-term and long-term loans:
IITGN also grants interest-free short-term and long-term loans based on students’ need to support their academic requirements, excellence activities, purchase of laptop/PC and in some cases even personal expenses. Students can also apply to pay tuition and other fees in instalments.
5 EWYL (Earn While You Learn) program:
It aims to help students to get a first-hand professional work experience while getting paid for it. The selected students’ under EWYL program can work for a maximum of 10 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week during vacations. The remuneration provided is tentatively in the range of Rs.150 – 200 per hour.
6 TML-FAP (Tata Motors Ltd. Financial Aid Program):
IIT Gn in association with Tata Motors Ltd. provides financial assistance to students from economically weaker backgrounds through the TML-FAP (Tata Motors Ltd. Financial Aid Program) which is open to all the undergraduate students of IIT Gandhinagar.
7 Scholarships and financial support for international internships, financial rewards for undergraduate research publications are also made available.

Vidya Lakshmi is a portal for students needs Education Loan. It is developed under the guidance of Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance, Government of India), Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), and Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), and being maintained by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited. Students can view and find suitable educational loan schemes from this portal. They can apply and track their loan applications to banks, anytime, anywhere, by accessing the portal.
The portal also provides a link to the National Scholarship Portal, where students can search and find various scholarships provided by the Government of India.
