INTRODUCTION:
Founded in the year 1919 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, IIT(BHU), Varanasi was initially called Banaras Engineering College. Apparently, it was only designated as IIT BHU in the year 2012, by the effect of the Act of Parliament. It was the first institute in UP to offer degree courses in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgy and Pharmaceutics. To provide learning blended with excellence, to conduct original research of highest standard and to provide leaders of tomorrow for the industrial growth of the country is the sole aim of the institute.

LOCATION
The institute is located in Varanasi(Uttar pradesh), and it is well connected with all the parts of the country by all means of transportation. It is appropriately 35km from the nearest airport situated at Babatpur and it is connected with major cities like Delhi, Agra, Khajurao, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow and Bhubaneshwar airport.
Also, the campus is situated at a distance of just 10km from the nearest railway station, Varanasi Cantt. Station. Auto Rikshaw, Cab are always available to reach the campus.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
IIT-BHU has different procedures for admission to the different courses.
B.Tech
Admission procedure begins with a candidate’s rank in JEE-Advanced and centralized counselling by the which Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
The seat allotment is based on the college cutoff and candidate’s preference of courses and colleges. The registration and choice filling of JoSAA 2020 generally begins from the third week of June in online mode.

M.Tech
Admission to this program is offered to GATE qualified/sponsored candidate through departmental level screening test/counseling.

M.Pharm
Admission to MPharm programme is based on GPAT exam.
BPharm or an equivalent degree in Pharmacy with a minimum 60% aggregate or CGPA/CPI of 6 in 10 point scale (without rounding off) in the qualifying degree. For SC/ST candidates, the qualifying marks would be 55% in aggregate.
PhD

SCHOLARSHIP
IIT- BHU offers Merit-cum-Means scholarships to 25% undergraduate students.
Also, there are several endowment scholarships offered by the Institute. Some other facilities are also provided to the undergraduate students in the form of Institute free studentship, scholarship, re-imbursement of mess charges and pocket allowances to the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
All the students (non-sponsored) admitted to M.Tech./M.Pharm. programmes are provided financial Assistance equivalent to the Junior Research Fellowships.
The Institute also offers a large number of Junior/Senior Research Fellowships to students admitted to Ph.D. programmes.

Vidya Lakshmi is a portal for Education Loan for students needs financial support. It is developed under the guidance of Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance, Government of India), Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), and Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), and being maintained by NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited. Students can view and find suitable educational loan schemes from this portal. They can apply and track their loan applications to banks, anytime, anywhere, by accessing the portal.
The portal also provides a link to the National Scholarship Portal, where students can search and find various scholarships provided by the Government of India.
