AFCAT exam is a recruitment test for employing young Indians (both male and female) as an officer in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The exam is conducted twice a year, usually in the month of February and August. AFCAT exam scores are used for recruiting officers in all branches of Air Force except for Medical and Dental. AFCAT 2 2107 Exam Date
The AFCAT 2 2017 exam date is 27th August 2017 as per the official notification released on 3rd June 2017.

Medium of Examination
The AFCAT exam will be conducted in both HINDI and ENGLISH.
Type of Examination
The AFCAT 2 2017 written test, conducted by IAF itself, will be an objective-based test. It will have an OMR sheet as mode of reporting answers.
Branches Recruiting For
The AFCAT 2 2017 exam will be a yardstick for recruiting candidates in the following three branches of IAF:
- Flying Branch (Short Service Commission).
- Technical branch (Both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission).
- Ground Duty Branch (Both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission).
The Permanent Commission recruitments in the Flying Branch of IAF are not done via the AFCAT exam. Instead, the Combined Defence Services exam, conducted by UPSC, is used for recruiting candidates in permanent commission in the Flying branch of IAF.
AFCAT 2 2017 Age Limits
Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
The applicant should have attained at least 20 years of age but must be younger than 24 years of age as on 1st July 2018.
Therefore, the candidate must be born in between 2nd July 1994 and 1st Jan 1998.
An applicant is subject to 2 years of age relaxation if he/she holds a valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India).
Technical Branch & Ground Duty (Both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
Candidate must be at least 20 years old but should not be more than 26 years of age, as on 1st July 2018 (i.e. born between 2nd July 1992 and 1st July 1998, both inclusive).

The AFCAT 2 2017 notification was published on 3rd June 2017. Currently, the application portal for the AFCAT exam is open and will remain so till 29th June 2017.

AFCAT 2 2017 Syllabus
The AFCAT 2 2017 written exam shall comprise of following sections:
- General Awareness.
- Verbal Ability in English.
- Numerical Ability.
- Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.

Eligibility Criteria
Flying Branch
A graduate in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% aggregate marks. Also, should have passed Physics and Mathematics in 10+2 exam with a threshold of 60% marks in each.
OR
Should hold a B.E/B.Tech degree from any recognized university with 60% marks as aggregate. The above-mentioned 12th standard criterion holds true here.
OR
Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university with at least 60% aggregate.
Technical Branch
Under the technical branch, there are two categories based on candidate’s degree:
- Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics).
- Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanics).
Passed a minimum four-year degree qualification from a recognized university. The flying branch 10+2 criteria also holds true here
OR
Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual study with at least 60% marks.
Ground Duty
Candidates applying for Ground Duty in IAF have 3 types of post:
Administration & Logistics
Applicant has to be a graduate from a recognized university with a minimum 60% marks as aggregate in any discipline.
OR
Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with minimum 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
Accounts
A graduate in commerce with at least 60% aggregate marks.
Education
A degree of MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International Studies / Defence Studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT /Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum 50% aggregate (2 years program atleast). Along with this, candidate must have scored 60% marks in graduation.
How to Apply for AFCAT 2 2017?
Application Fee
The AFCAT exam has no application fee for any category of student.
Photograph and Signature Specifications
- Scanned color passport sized photograph – JPG/JPEG Format – 10 Kb-50 Kb in size.
- Uploading signature isn’t required in AFCAT 2017 (II).

AFCAT Application Correction
Candidates can correct their AFCAT 2 2017 application forms in between 30th June and 1st July 2017.
Examination Pattern
The AFCAT exam, which is a written exam, is followed by the SSB Interviews before finally absorbing the candidate as an IAF officer.
