Introduction
TNSET or Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test is a state-level recruitment exam organised by the Mother Teresa Women’s University, the state Nodal Agency of the UGC under the Government of Tamil Nadu. The purpose of conducting TNSET is to recruit candidates for the post of assistant professors in Tamil Nadu based universities and colleges (Private/Government/Aided). TNSET 2019 will be conducted within the state in 26 subjects at 11 examination centers across the state. The expected release date of official TNSET 2019 notification is around the 2nd week of December 2018.

TNSET 2019 Important Dates (Tentative)

TNSET 2019 Exam Date
The TNSET 2019 examination date will be updated soon.
Mode of Examination
TNSET 2019 will be a pen-and-paper based offline exam. The candidate must carry a black ball point pen to the exam centre.
Medium of Examination
The examination will be mainly conducted in two languages – English, and Tamil. However, the paper on Hindi will be conducted in Hindi, and the paper on Telugu will be conducted in Telugu.
Eligibility Criteria for TNSET 2019
Following eligibility clauses must be satisfied for the examination:
Nationality
The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Qualifying Exam
Candidates must have a master’s degree or equivalent from Institutions/Universities recognised by UGC, New Delhi. Accepted disciplines include:
- Sciences,
- Humanities (including languages),
- Social Sciences,
- Computer Science & Applications,
- Electronic Sciences,
- Library & Information Science.
Candidates must have secured 55% for General/OBC (Creamy layer) and 50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD in the qualifying exam to be eligible.
Candidate can only appear in subject/discipline relevant to his Master’s degree. If candidate is not able to find his/her discipline, then he/she may take the UGC NET test.
Final year Students
Candidates who are in their final year of master’s degree or those who are awaiting their results can also apply.
Age Limit
No upper age limit to apply.
How to Apply Online for TNSET 2019?
The application portal for TNSET exam is currently closed.
Candidates can only apply online for TNSET 2019. No offline or paper applications will be accepted for TNSET.
The application form was available in the official website in the 3rd week of December 2018.
Exam Fee
Application Fee must be submitted Online via Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. The following is the fee structure for TNSET 2019:

TNSET Exam Centers
TNSET 2019 will be conducted in eleven test centers across Tamil Nadu. The candidate can select any one of the Examination Centers mentioned below:

Hall Ticket
The TNSET 2019 hall ticket/admit card will be available in the month of June 2019. The hall ticket will be available through online mode only. No offline hall ticket will be issued.
Candidates must take a print out of the TNSET 2019 hall ticket. Candidates are required to enter the examination hall with their TNSET 2019 hall ticket, failing which they will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
TNSET 2019 Exam Pattern
- Exam Duration: Candidates will be provided one hour for Paper 1 and two hours for Paper 2. The papers will be conducted in two sessions on the same day, one immediately after another.
- Type of Questions: There will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Total Marks: The total mark is 100 marks for Paper 1 and 200 marks for Paper 2.
- Total Number of Questions: There will be 50 questions in Paper 1 and 100 questions Paper 2.
- Marking Scheme: 2 marks are allotted for each correct answer. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Selection Criteria
Top 6% of the appearing candidates who appear in both Papers I and paper II will be declared qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor by following the reservation policy of the State Government if they meet the following criteria:
- 40% aggregate marks [for General / OBC (Creamy Layer) category candidates].
- 35% aggregate marks [for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / SC / ST / PwD category candidates].
