Introduction


National Institute of Design (NID) conducts a national-level design entrance exam every year for UG and PG admissions NID campuses across India. The NID Entrance exam, or the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), is conducted in two stages, namely Preliminary and Main. Candidates qualifying the Prelims are then shortlisted for the Main round. The official notification for the NID 2019 will tentatively be released in the 4th week of September 2018.

NID 2019 Exam Date


NID 2019 (Prelims) is expected to be conducted by the 1st week of Jan 2019 for both UG and PG Programs.

While NID 2019 (Mains) is expected to be conducted between 3rd to 4th week of May 2019 for UG courses and between 2nd week of Mar to 2nd week of Apr 2019 for PG Programme.

Mode of Answering


NID DAT 2019 (Prelims) is a Pen/Paper based test with both Multi-Choice Questions (MCQ) and Subjective type questions.

Medium of Examination


For NID DAT 2019, English has been prescribed as the only medium of examination.

NID 2019 Eligibility Criteria


Eligibility criteria for NID Entrance exam 2019 has been described below:

Nationality


Candidates holding Indian nationality and those holding nationality other than that of Republic of India i.e. foreign nationals, are eligible for NID 2019 exam.

Age Limit


UG Program (B.Des/GDPD)

Upper age limit for aspirants (both General/Foreign) is 20 years measured on 30th June 2019. Therefore, only candidates born on or after 1st July 1998 are eligible for the exam.

A 3-year age relaxation is applicable for reserved category (OBC-NCL/SC/ST) and a relaxation of 5 years is applicable for PWD.

PG Program (M.Des)

Allowed maximum age limit for a candidate is 30 years (both General/Foreign) as on 30 June 2019.

A relaxation of 3 years is applicable for reserved category(OBC-NCL/SC/ST) and a relaxation of 5 years is applicable for PWD

Educational Qualification


UG Program (B.Des/GDPD)

The candidate must have passed the 12th board examination from any recognized educational board in any discipline (Arts, Commerce, Science etc.).

Candidates appearing for the 12th board examination in 2019-20 can also apply, provided they submit the proof of passing the exam at the time of admission.

PG Program (M.Des)

Candidate must have passed Bachelor Degree of minimum 4-years duration from any recognised University/Institution in any discipline. Candidate appearing in the final year/semester of the 4-year program are also eligible, provided they pass before July 2019.

OR

Candidate must have passed the 3-year Bachelor Degree from any recognised University/Institution on or before July 2018.

OR

Candidate must have passed minimum 4-year full-time Diploma in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture.

NID 2019 Application form


Candidates can apply only through the online application process.

NID 2019 application portal is likely to be opened on the 4th week of Sep, 2018 for both UG and PG admissions.

Candidates can apply online for NID 2019 and fill the application by visiting the official website.

Application fee


NID DAT 2019 application fee can be paid either by online transactions through debit/credit card/net banking or by Demand Draft.

Documents to be uploaded


  • Colour Photograph with white background – Less than 100 kB – JPEG Format.
  • Signature – On white paper in black/blue inked pen only – Less than 100 Kb –  JPEG Format.
  • Caste Certificate (OBC-NCL/ST/SC/PWD) – Less than 150 Kb –  JPEG Format. (if applicable)
  • Disability certificate – JPEG/JPG format – less than 150 Kb (if applicable).
  • Scanned first & last page of passport – JPEG/JPG format – less than 150 Kb (for foreign nationals only).

Application Process


Accessing the link: The first step to submit the NID DAT 2019 application form is Registration.

Online Registration: After registering successfully, the candidates need to enter the following details:

  • Name of Candidate
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Date of Birth
  • Educational Qualification
  • Mobile Number
  • E-mail ID
  • Re-enter E-mail ID
  • Verification Code

Then click on ‘Submit’ button.

Confirmation E-mail: Once registered, the candidates will receive a confirmation e-mail. Now, the candidates will be able to log in and fill details in the application form of NID 2019 DAT.

Login: To log in, candidates will have to submit registered E-Mail ID, Date of Birth and Captcha Code.

Filling the NID 2019 Registration Form: Now the application form of NID 2019 DAT will open. In this window, the candidates will have to submit Personal and Educational details.

Test City: Following the step above, the candidates will be required to choose their preferred Test City.

Selection of Course: Now the candidate needs to select their choice of course carefully. Once the choice is selected and payment is made, it cannot be altered.

Payment of Application Fee: Now, the candidate needs to select the mode of payment to proceed to the payment gateway. Provide the details required to make payment. Once the payment is made, the candidate will not be allowed to make any changes in the application form.

Download the Application Form: When all the above steps are concluded, the candidates will be redirected to a page where they can view the filled in application form. The candidates are advised to download the filled-in NID DAT 2019 application form and take a print out of it.

NID 2019 Admit Card


Candidates who have registered successfully for the exam can download the NID 2019 admit card by following the steps below,

  • Visit the official website.
  • Click on link ‘Login to download Admit Card’.
  • Enter the Email Address, Date of birth, Roll number, registered mobile number and verification code and then Click on ‘Submit’ button
  • The admit card will appear. Check for any discrepancies and then download it in pdf format.
  • Take a print out of the Admit Card

The admit card is one of the important documents that need to be carried to the exam centre. Any candidate found without the same will not be refrained from appearing in the exam. Once the admit card is downloaded, check whether all the details mentioned on it are correct or not.

Examination Pattern


Preliminary Test (same pattern for UG & PG)


The duration of the NID exam 2019 will be three hours.

Both objective type (MCQ) questions and Subjective type questions will also be asked in the exam.

A total of 100 marks will be at stake during this examination.

Marking Scheme: Marks will vary from 0.5 marks to 4 marks for each question. No negative marking will be done for choosing wrong answers.

Main Test


Candidates qualifying the Preliminary test for both UG and PG will be called for Main test.

UG Programme

The Main Test for UG program shall be 3-hours long carrying a total of 100 marks.

Test Formats available include:

  • Sketching/Drawing.
  • hand-on-modeling.
PG Programme

The main test for NID 2019 PG programmes shall have two parts:

Studio Test

The duration of the exam will be three hours.

Various topics that will be covered in this test are Drawing/sketching, Hands-on Model making, GD, and Presentations.

A total of 100 marks will be at stake in this examination.

Personal Interview

Personal Interviews will take place just after the Studio test separately for each discipline at the same center.

The final merit list for UG and PG admissions will be prepared on the basis of performance in Preliminary and Main test.

  • Preliminary test – 30% weightage.
  • Main Test – 70% weightage.

NID 2019 Answer Key


The official answer key for NID 2019 will be published in the 2nd week of Jan 2019 for NID entrance exam (both UG and PG).

NID 2019 Result


The results of NID 2019 DAT Prelims for UG admissions will be announced on 2nd week of Mar, 2019 and for PG admissions will be announced on 3rd week of Feb, 2019.

The candidates will be shortlisted for Main round based on their Prelims score.

The final merit list for NID 2019 will be released in the 4th week of May 2019 for both UG & PG admissions. The final merit list will constitute the scores of Preliminary test and main test in following ratios:

  • Preliminary test – 30% 
  • Main Test – 30%.
