Introduction


UPSC NDA 2019 (National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination) is a national level recruitment examination conducted by the UPSC. The prestigious exam is conducted twice a year for recruitment of candidates in the 03 wings of Indian armed forces. Admission to NDA is a 2-stage process comprising of Written exam and SSB Interviews. The official notification for the NDA 01 2019 exam shall be released on 9th January 2019 while the notification for NDA 2019 (II) shall be available from 7th August 2019.

What is National Defense Academy?


National Defence Academy (NDA) is a Joint Services Academy of the Indian Armed Forces located near Pune at Khadakwasla, Maharashtra. It is a military training institute where the cadets of the Army, Navy and Air Force train together before their pre-commissioning training. The National Defence Academy was commissioned in 1954 while it was inaugurated on 16th January 1955. Since the Academy was established, the alumni of NDA have fought and led in every major war and battle of the country. The alumni of NDA have amongst them many ParamVir Chakra and Ashoka Chakra recipients.

NDA 2019 Exam Date


According to recently released UPSC Calendar, NDA 01 2019 shall be conducted on 21st April 2019.

As for NDA 02 2019, the entrance examination shall be conducted on 17th November 2019.

Mode of Answering


Much like before, NDA exam shall be conducted in OFFLINE mode i.e. OMR Response sheets.

Medium of Examination


ENGLISH and HINDI are the prescribed languages for NDA 2019.

NDA 2019 Eligibility Criteria


The general eligibility criteria for taking National Defense Academy entrance test has been stated below.

Nationality


Candidate must either be:

  • a citizen of India;
  • Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan;
  • A refugee from Tibet who came to India before 1st January 1962, and intended to permanently settle here;
  • Migrants from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, and East African Countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Zaire or Vietnam who came to India with the intention of permanent settlement.
  • Certificate of eligibility must be present with candidates who are not citizens of India.

NDA Age limit


NDA 01 

The candidates must not be born before 2nd July 2001 and later than 1st July 2004.

NDA 02 

Candidates must not be born before 2nd July 2002 and later than 1st July 2005.

Additionally, only unmarried male candidates can apply for the exam.

Educational Qualification


Army Wing of NDA

The candidate must have completed 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Air Force and Naval Wings of the NDA/10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the INA

The candidate must have completed 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent conducted by a recognized education board. Additionally, the candidate must have studied Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level.

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying exam can also apply for this examination.

Examination will be held on the following centres:

Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Bengaluru, Bareilly,
Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad,
Dispur, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat,
Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji
(Goa), Patna, Port Blair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla,
Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.

NOTE:    Applicants shall note that there will be a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the Centers except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur. Allotment of Centers will be on the ‘first-apply-first allot’ basis, and once the capacity of a particular Centre is attained, the same will be frozen. Applicants are, thus, advised that they may apply early so that they could get a Centre of their choice



NDA Application Form 2019


The application portal for NDA form 2019 is currently closed.

The candidates can apply to the exam only through online applications.

The tentative release date for the NDA form 2019 (I) is 9th January 2019. The last date to apply for the exam is 4th February 2019. 

To apply online for UPSC NDA 2019 (II), candidates can visit the application portal between 7th August 2019 and 3rd September 2019

Application Fee


The candidates can pay the fees for NDA 2019 either online through Visa/MasterCard/Rupay Credit/Debit Card, or by using the net banking facility of State Bank of India.

Alternatively, they can also pay offline by depositing the money in any SBI branch by using the Pay-in-slip.

Application Process


Application forms for NDA 2019 (I) shall be available from 9th January 2019 till 4th February 2019.

Every UPSC conducted examination has two parts of the application form:

  • Part I
  • Part II.
Part I

Visit the official UPSC applications portal to start your NDA 2019 registration. Choose NDA 2019 entrance exam.

Complete the Part I registration by providing the personal details, such as your name, nationality, and so on.

Further applicants need to enter their preferences among army, navy and air force.

Once you finish Part 1, a registration ID will be generated. Download the slip and save it for future references.

Part II

Under the Part II of UPSC NDA 2019 registration, following steps shall be completed.

  • Uploading documents.
  • Selection of exam centre.
  • Payment of application fee.

NDA Admit Card 2019


The admit cards are expected to be available from the 4th week of March 2019 for NDA 01 2019.

In case of NDA 02, the admit cards will be available from the 2nd week of October 2019.

Candidates must carry a valid photo ID along with the NDA admit cards to the examination hall.

Examination Pattern


A successful selection to the National Defense Academy takes place post following stages:

  1. Stage I – Written Test conducted by UPSC.
  2. Stage II – SSB Interviews.

Written Exam 


NDA 2019 exam pattern can be described as an OFFLINE OMR sheet based examination consisting of Objective type questions.

There will be negative marking of 0.33 marks for each incorrect answer.

The exam will consist of two parts –

  1. Mathematics.
  2. General Ability.
Mathematics Paper

The duration of the mathematics paper is 2 ½ hours.

The Mathematics paper will carry a total of 300 marks, with question booklets in both ENGLISH and HINDI language.

General Ability Test

The General Ability Test will be 600 marks question paper comprising of following 2 sections:

  • Part I: English Language Paper – 200 Marks.
  • Part II: General Knowledge Paper – 400 Marks.

The duration of General ability test will be another 2.5 hours.

SSB Interviews


After clearing the written test, the candidates need to appear for the SSB interview.This round consists of scientifically designed tests to assess the personality of the candidate. They are a major deciding factor for recruitment of Officers to the Indian Armed Forces.

The SSB interviews for NDA 2018 shall be conducted in 2 stages. Candidates need to clear stage 1 to proceed to stage 2. The various tests/tasks in each stage are as follows: 

Stage I
  • Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR).
  • Picture Perception Test (PP).
  • Description Test (DT).
Stage II
  • Group Testing Officers Task.
  • Psychology tests.
  • Interviews.
  • Conferences.

SSB Interviews will hold 900 marks.

NDA Answer Key 2019


The answer key will be available on the official website as PDF file.

NDA 2019 answer key will be published within a week after the examination.

The answer key will not be published officially. It will be released by various coaching institutions. Through answer key, candidates will be able to calculate their rough marks.

NDA Result 2019


NDA result 2019 (I) are expected to be published around the 4th week of May 2019 while NDA result 2019 (II) are expected to be published around the 4th week of November 2019.

The qualified candidates must register themselves further for the SSB interview process.
