Introduction
SSC (Staff Selection Commission) is conducting an open competition for recruitment to the post of Scientific Assistant in India Meteorological Department (IMD), Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post, in the Level 6 of the Pay Matrix as per the Recruitment.

The posts carry All India Service Liability (AISL) i.e. the candidate, on selection, may be asked to serve anywhere in the country.

Medium of Examination
The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for questions of English Language & comprehensions.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria has been described below:-
Nationality
A candidate must hold either of the following nationality to be eligible to apply for SSC CGL exam:
A candidate must be either:
1 a citizen of India, or
2 a subject of Nepal, or
3 a subject of Bhutan, or
4 a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5 a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Note: A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but, the offer of appointment will only be given after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
Age Limit
Upper age of the candidate should not exceeding 30 years as on 18-10-2022.
Candidate must have been born not earlier than 19-10-1992 and not later than 17-10-2004.
Note: (ii) For relaxation in upper age limit for various categories refer official notification.
Essential Education Qualification (As on 18 October, 2022)
Bachelor’s Degree in Science (with Physics as one of the subject)/Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Applications.
OR
Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized Institution/University or equivalent.
Note: (i) The qualifying Degree or Diploma referred above should be in First Class (60% marks) or 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale.
(Ii) The qualifying Degree or Diploma referred above must be of three (3) years duration after (10+2) examination.
- The applicant must have passed 10+2 Examination from a Recognized Board or equivalent in Science with Physics and Mathematics as core subjects
- Candidates who have appeared in their final year of their graduation can also apply, however they must possess Essential qualification on or before the cut-off date i.e.18-10-2022.
Application fee
Application fee for SSC CGL 2022 can be paid either by online transaction or offline mode using the e-challan.
The application fee for various categories is tabulated below:

Fee can be paid by following modes:
- BHIM UPI,
- Net Banking or by using Visa, Mastercard,

(However, candidates who wish to make cash payment through the challan of SBI, may make payment in cash at the Branches of SBI within the working hours of bank up to 20-10-2022 provided the challan has been generated by them before 19-10-2022 (23:00 hours)
Documents to be uploaded
Candidates must keep the following documents at hand while filling the SSC CGL 2022 application form:
- Scanned Passport sized photograph – between 20-50 kb – JPG format
Image dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) and 4.5 cm (height)
- Scanned Signature – between 10-20 kb – JPEG format (Image dimension of the signature should be 4.0 cm (width) and 3.0 cm ( height)
How to Apply?
Candidates can only apply only through online mode.
For filling on line application, the process will be broadly in two steps:
1 Registration (One Time)
2 Filling of on line application for the examination (After Registration)
Documents/ Information to be kept in readiness
Before starting for One-Time Registration, following information and documents are to be kept in readiness:
(i) Email ID (which is will be verified through OTP).
(ii) Mobile Number (which is will be verified through OTP)
(iii) Aadhaar Number. If Aadhaar Number is not available, then, give one out of the following Id Numbers.
(a) PAN
(b) Voter ID Card
(c) Passport
(d) School/ College ID
(e) Driving License
(f) Employer ID (Govt./ PSU/Private)
(g) Scanned Passport sized photograph ( As per above details) (h) Scanned Signature (As per above details)
(iv) Information about the Board, Roll Number and Year of Passing the
Secondary School Examination i.e. Matriculation (10th) Examination.
(v) Disability Certificate Number, if candidate is with benchmark disability.
1 For One-Time Registration
- Log on link http://ssc.nic.in.
- Click on ” Register Now” in Log in section
- Fill in the all basic details,
- Additional & contact details &
- Declaration :
- After saving basic details, again provide mobile number and email Id for confirmation and on confirmation by the candidate, a Registration Number will appear on screen.
- Then, log in with the received Registration Number as username and click.
- A auto generated password will be sent on the registered mobile number and email.
- Then, password is to be changed by you when you go for your first log in.
- After successful change of password, again candidate has to login using registration number and changed password.
- And Password will be sent to you on your given mobile number and Email ID.
- On successful login, information about the “Basic Details” filled so far will be displayed. Candidate may edit it, if required or ,if correct may proceed further by clicking on ”Next “button at the bottom.
- Thus, your one-time Registration will be completed.
Note: (i) Though, candidate can edit/ modify his/her One-time Registration data, however, one must be very cautious while filling up details in the One-time Registration. Wrong/ incorrect information may lead to cancellation of your candidature.
(ii) User Id and password to be kept safely and secretly as these will be required in thorough out selection process.
2 Filling of on line application (After one time Registration)

To Apply:
(i) Log on link http://ssc.nic.in
(ii) Login by entering registration number and password.
(iii) Click ”Apply” on link ‘Scientific Assistant in India Meteorological Department Examination, 2022’ section under ”Notice” tab.
(iv) Column Sl 1 to 14: Information in columns at S No-1 to 14 will be automatically generated from candidature’s data held in One-time Registration. These automatically generated data are non-editable.
(v) Sl No-15: Provide 03 numbers Examination Centers in order of preference. Candidate may choose examination Centers within the same Region. Information bulletin of SSC will be referred for this.
(vi) Rest other information , as applicable, from S No 16 to 25 will be filled in.
(vii) S No-26: The photograph uploaded above should not be more than three months old from the date of publication of the Notice of Examination. Click ‘Yes’, if the photograph uploaded above is not more than three months old from the date of publication of the Notice of Examination.
(vii) Read the declarations carefully and click on “I agree” check box if, you accept the same. Enter Captcha text.
(vii) Verify the information provided by you by previewing the entered data and, then, Submit the Application
(viii) Make payment of fee as detailed above, if candidate not exempted.
(ix) On successfully submission of the application, it will be accepted ‘Provisionally’. It is advised that Candidate should take printout of the application form for their own records and future reference purpose.
Admission Card/certificate:
(i) Admission Certificates for Computer Based Examination will be issued online on the websites of concerned Regional Office of the Commission under whose jurisdiction the examination centers opted by the candidate are located (detail at para-11.1 of notification). A “Notice” about information regarding Admit Card/ Admission Certificate will also be provided on the website of IMD.
(ii) Downloading of Admission Certificates will be made available 3-7 days before the examination on the website of Regional Office concerned. Candidate must bring printout of the Admission Certificate to the Examination Hall.
(iii) In addition to the Admission Card/Certificate, it is mandatory to carry at least two passport size recent colour photographs, Original valid Photo-ID proof having the Date of Birth as printed on the Admission Certificate, such as:
(a) Aadhaar Card/ Printout of E-Aadhaar,
(b) Voter’s ID Card,
© Driving License,
(d) PAN Card,
(e) Passport,
(f) ID Card issued by University/ College/ School,
(g) Employer ID Card (Govt./ PSU),
(iv) Ex-Serviceman Discharge Book issued by Ministry of Defence,
(v) Any other photo bearing ID card issued by the Central/ State Government.
(vi) PwBD candidates availing the facility shall also be required to carry requisite Medical Certificate/ Undertaking/ Photocopy of the Scribe’s Photo ID Proof, as specified therein. Candidates without above noted documents will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
(vii) . Any other document mentioned in the Admission card/Certificate shall also be carried by the candidates while appearing in the Examination.
Examination Scheme
(i) Commission will conduct a Computer Based Examination comprising 200 questions carrying 200 marks for two hours duration of exam.
(ii) The question paper would have two parts, Part-I and Part-II as detailed below:

Notes: (i) The exam will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English language & Comprehension.
(ii) The candidates will be required to attempt both Part-I and Part-II of the examination.
(iii) Part-II of examination will be on the basis of subject opted in the online application form. For example, the candidates opting for Physics will be required to attempt Physics paper, the candidates opting for Computer Science & IT will be required to attempt Computer Science & IT paper and the candidates opting for Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering will be required to attempt Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering paper in Part-II, failing which their candidature will be rejected.
- Marking Scheme: 1mark will be awarded for each correct answer.
- Negative marking of 0.25will be applied for each wrong answer.
Indicative Syllabus (Part-I):
A General Intelligence & Reasoning: General Intelligence & Reasoning: The Syllabus for General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.
B General Awareness: General, physical, geographical, topographical, economic and climatic features of India. Current events. Matters of everyday observation and experience on scientific aspects and reasoning. Basic topics of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. History of India, its cultural heritage, freedom movement, salient feature of the Constitution of India. Economic and social aspect of the country and its people
C Quantitative Aptitude: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and Distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary Surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of center, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angle, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.
D English Language and Comprehension: English grammar, Vocabulary, Spellings, Synonyms and Antonyms, Comprehension, Correct and incorrect usages, etc.
