Introduction

The Indian Institute of Technology, Patna or commonly known as IIT Patna, is one of the new IITs established in 2008. It is located in Patna, capital of Bihar, India and is a premier institute offering education and research in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology. It is an autonomous public institute established by an Act of Indian Parliament and are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. It has been declared to be one of the institutions of national importance, alongside the other IITs and NITs.

IIT Patna Location

IIT Patna is located in Amhara, Bihta, which is approximately 35 km from city center of Patna & 20 Km from Ara.

Air Services

The campus is also connected to the nearest airport, Jai Prakash Narayan Domestic Airport, Patna. The airport is located 31.7 km from IIT Patna, via NH922.

Railway Services

The nearest railway station i.e. Bihta railway station, is only 4 km from the campus and is located 35 km west from Patna railway junction.

This railway station is connected to most of the major cities in India and is well connected to Patna, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and a few other cities.

Bus Services

There are regular bus services provided by the Government, which connects Gandhi Maidan, Patna to IIT Patna campus. The institute itself provides bus services for its students, faculties and staffs from the campus to Patliputra colony, Patna.

Ranking

IIT Patna has been ranked as the 41st best Engineering College in India, by the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework, by Ministry of Human Resource in 2023, and 66th in the  overall category.

IIT Patna has also been ranked 108 among BRICS nations by the QS World University rankings in 2018.

IIT Patna Admission 

B.Tech Admission

Admission for IIT Patna is a two step process. Candidates must first clear JEE Main and then JEE Advanced & counselling through JOSAA counselling.

IIT Patna M.Tech Admission

Admissions for postgraduate courses will be based on candidates performance in GATE exam. Every year this exam is conducted by IISc Bangalore and the 7 IITs on a rotational basis.

M.Sc Admission

Admission for this course will be based on the candidates performance in IIT- JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc). This too is conducted by IISc Bangalore and the IITs on a rotational basis.

Ph.D Admission

IIT Patna Fee Structure

B.Tech Fee Structure (Admission from July 2023 onwards)

Note: (a) One Time (Refundable on completion of Degree)

          (i) Academic Fee: 20,000/-

           (ii) Hostel Academic fee: 5000/-

      (b) The SC/ST/PH students shall get complete tuition fee waiver.

      (c) The most economically backward students (whose family income is below Rs. One lakh per annum) shall get full remission of the tuition fee.

     (d)The other economically backward students (whose family income is between Rs. One Lakh to Rs. Five lakhs per annum) shall get remission of 2/3 rd of the tuition fee.

IIT Patna Campus

IIT Patna is located at a 501 acres site, whose foundation stone was laid by Kapil Sibal in 2011. The inauguration of the campus was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25^th July, 2015. IIT Patna Placements 

The Training and Placement call (TPC) of IIT Patna is responsible for all aspects regarding placements.

In the placement sessions of 2020-21, 239 offers were given to B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D students. Total of 125 companies had visited the campus and few of the major recruiters were Microsoft, Indian Oil, Cognizant, TVS Motors, United Health Group, etc.
