IIT Guwahati was established in the year 1994 and became the 6th member of the IIT fraternity. It is a world-class institution situated in Guwahati, belongs to the “Old IITs” group and comes under the elite class of institutes for engineering and technical studies, and is known for its quality education across the country. Location
Guwahati is located in the state of Assam and has low connectivity by air, railways, and road network from all parts of the country, compared to other major cities in India.
The campus is situated at a distance of 23 kms from the nearest airport (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport) and the travel time is approximately 40 minutes to reach the campus.
The closest railway station to the campus is the Guwahati Railway station which is at a distance of 19 kms from campus and takes about 35 minutes to reach the campus.

Admission Procedure
Undergraduate courses:
The admission to all B.Tech. programs are done through the All India Joint Entrance Examination test (IIT – JEE) conducted jointly by all IITs in two stages, i.e., JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
Cut off of JEE (Advanced) for admission in BTech of Academic Year 2021
M.Tech courses:
For admission to M.Tech., the candidates must have a valid GATE score, and the following are the eligibility criteria for different programs.

The students are selected through Joint Admission to MSc in IITs (IIT-JAM) examination for the M.Sc. programs.
M.Tech.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programs:
M.Tech. + Ph.D. (Dual) in CSE
For the Dual (M Tech + Ph.D.) Degree program of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, students are admitted only in regular mode and they should have a UG degree in any discipline other than CSE or IT or equivalent, along with the one of the following criteria:
- CPI of 7.5 or marks of 70% and a valid GATE score in any subject, if the qualifying B E/B Tech degree is not from an IIT
- CPI of 8.0, if the qualifying B Tech degree is from an IIT
- CPI of 7.0 (or more) but less than 8.0, a valid GATE score in any subject, if the qualifying B Tech degree is from an IIT
Dual [MS(Engineering) + Ph.D.] in EEE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology in any area or equivalent with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
- A valid GATE score in any subject.

Campus
IIT Guwahati has a picturesque campus spread over an area of 285 acres, on the banks of the river Brahmaputra. The campus has a spacious lecture hall and an auditorium which is designed for mass gatherings. Apart from this, there are other infrastructural facilities like the library, Computer & Communication Center for the students to use.
Moreover, there is also a sports complex that has indoor badminton courts, table tennis, and squash courts, along with a gymnasium and swimming pool as well.
In order to provide accommodation, there are a total of 11 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels with individual rooms for all the students. Each of these hostels has its own canteen, juice center, pantry, mess, stationery shop, and many other facilities.
