Introduction

IIM Calcutta is the first institute to be established in the year 1961, by the Government of India for the purpose of post-graduate studies in the field of management in India. Location

Kolkata is one of the prime metro cities in the western part of India and thus it is well connected from various parts of the country by both flight and train services, making it very easy to reach the city.

The campus is situated at a distance of 35 kms from the nearest airport (Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport) and the travel time is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

The closest railway station to the campus is the Howrah Railway station which is at a distance of 20 kms from campus and takes about 45 minutes to reach the campus.

IIM-C comes in 3^rd place in the NIRF 2021 rankings which is announced by the Ministry of Education, GoI. The following are some of the other rankings that this institute has obtained in the year 2021.

Courses Offered:

The following are the various degree-granting courses offered in IIM Calcutta for a wide variety of aspirants ranging from freshers to executives. These programs are tabulated as under:

Admission Procedure

In this section, we shall look into the admission process of the flagship PGP program that is offered at IIM Calcutta in detail.

For admission into the PGP program, students should have either completed their Bachelor’s degree or be in their final year of their Bachelor’s degree while writing the CAT Exam.

After taking the CAT exam, aspirants will have to appear for an interview based on shortlisting from various criteria like the performance in 10^th, 12^th exams, UG score, and gender diversity factor as well. The weightage for each of these factors varies every year depending upon the candidate pool available to the college.

Selection Criteria for PGP admissions – Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC)

There are two stages of selection:

1. Shortlisting candidates based on their CAT Scores, 10^th, and 12th board marks for WAT/GD/PI. (Gender diversity score will be awarded to female candidates to promote diversity)
2. Final Selection on the basis of WAT/GD/PI.

The first basis of shortlisting candidates is through their CAT Score, 10th and 12th board marks. Along with the overall CAT Score, section-wise scores are also considered while shortlisting candidates.

Minimum CAT Score Requirement (CAT 2021) to be considered eligible for PI stage (In percentile):

The first list of shortlisted candidates for the interview stage is prepared on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Class X Marks
2. Class XII Marks
3. CAT Score
4. Gender Diversity

These components have the following weightage in the final selection procedure:

Final Selection Criteria

For the final selection, the shortlisted candidates are required to take an interview, and during the interview, the candidate’s academic performance, knowledge of concepts in the bachelor’s degree, and prior work experience (if applicable) will be judged.

The final selection will be made on the following basis:

1. CAT Score
2. Personal Interview (PI)
3. Academic Diversity points (awarded for a non-engineering candidate)
4. Work Experience

These components have the following weightage in the final selection procedure:

For work experience, a maximum of 8 points will be awarded if the duration of service is between 31 to 36 months. However, the most important point to note here is that, if the service duration exceeds 36 months, the points awarded will start to reduce.

Fee Structure

The fee structure for Executive MBA is INR 27,00,00 for the year 2022-23.

The schedule of payment for the same is mentioned below:

The above amount includes all expenses like course material, hostel fees, tuition fees, and tours organized by the college.

The fee for the 2-year flagship MBA program is INR 23,00,000, and the fee for this year is yet to be updated on the official portal of the college.

Campus

Campus

The campus is spread across 135 acres and is very popularly known as the “Joka” signifying the strong bond between the local people and the campus. The campus has 7 lakes surrounding it and has a very picturesque view.

The most notable piece of architecture at the IIM-C campus would be the Tata Hall, which provides accommodation for the students who come for the MDP program. This building has 56 conference rooms, 3 conference rooms, and 4 suites for the executive residents to stay.

When it comes to the digital facilities, the institute provides one of the best across the IIMs. It has 24-hour internet access through Wi-Fi and LAN ports and has a network of over 1000 computers, and access to exclusive databases like Bloomberg, Capitaline, Prowess, and many more. There is a 750-seater auditorium built for mass gatherings of formal events.

To accommodate the students on campus, there are 3 main hostel blocks, namely the Old Hostel, White Hostel, and New Hostel. There are many stadiums and indoor courts as well, to encourage the students to participate in extracurricular activities as well.

Placement Statistics

IIM Calcutta placements always have a good track record, and in the year 2021, a total of 572 offers were given by 172 recruiters, who visited the campus. The following are statistics for the 2019-2021 batch are as follows:

Consulting domain was the most preferred among the students and nearly 32% of the batch was placed in various companies in the consulting sector. Finance was the next preferred domain with 17% of the students getting placed in finance companies, followed by Gen Man roles, and Sales & Marketing roles.
