Goa is the smallest state in India. It is around 2000 km. away from our capital. This state consists of only 0.12% population of our country. It has a rich Konkani culture and also Portuguese culture influences the Goan culture a lot.

2 Geography2.1 Climate:
2.1.1 Goa features a tropical monsoon climate.
2.1.2 The month of May is usually the hottest.
2.1.3 The state’s three different seasons are Southwest monsoon (June – September), post-monsoon (October – January), and pre-monsoon (February – May).

2.2 Agriculture:
2.2.1 Rice and fish being the staple diet of the people, paddy becomes the principal crop in the scenario of agriculture in Goa.
2.2.2 The important crops are ragi, maize, jowar, bajra and pulses.
2.2.3 Cash crops like coconut, cashew-nut, areca-nut, mango, jackfruit, banana, pineapple are also grown in abundance. Cashew is an important crop in Goa. A kind of intoxicating drink called Feni is produced from cashew.
2.2.4 Sugarcane cultivation has been taken up only recently.
2.2.5 A variety of mangoes are grown in Goa. Some of the famous Mango varieties are mancurade, mussarade, fernandine, xavier, alfonsa, colaco.
2.2.6 There are two varieties of jackfruit grown here namely kapo (hard) and rasal (soft).
2.2.7 The vegetables that form a part of the agriculture in Goa are brinjal, lady’s fingers, radish, cucumber, pumpkins, drumsticks, breadfruit and different varieties of gourds. Sweet potatoes, chillies, onions are also available.

2.3 Natural Resources:
2.3.1 Iron ore, manganese, and bauxite are among the primary products of the industry.
2.3.2 Mining started in the mid-20th century, and over the next few decades it emerged as a major element of the state’s economy.

Zuari and Mandovi.

Goa has more than 40 estuarine, eight marine, and about 90 riverine islands. So the rivers are the busiest in India.

2.5.1 Foxes, wild boar and migratory birds are found in the jungles of Goa.
2.5.2 The avifauna (bird species) includes kingfisher, myna and parrot.
2.5.3 Numerous types of fish are also caught off the coast of Goa and in its rivers. Crab, lobster, shrimp, jellyfish, oysters, and catfish are the basis of the marine fishery.

4.2 Industries:
Major industries are as under: –
4.2.1 The land away from the coast is rich in minerals and ores, and mining forms the second largest industry.
4.2.2 Medium-scale industries include the manufacturing of pesticides, fertilizers, tires, tubes, footwear, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, wheat products, steel rolling, fruits and fish canning, cashew nuts, textiles, brewery products.
4.2.3 Goa is also notable for its low-priced beer, wine, and spirits prices due to its very low excise duty on alcohol.
4.2.4 Another main source of cash inflow to the state is remittance, from many of its citizens who work abroad, to their families. It is said to have some of the largest bank savings in the country.
4.2.5 In 1976 Goa became the first state in India to legalize some types of gambling.
