Introduction


Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT is a national-level entrance examination conducted by Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI) every year. XAT scores are used by more than 150 institutes all over India like XLRI, XIMB, SPJIMR, BIMTECH, TAPMI etc. for admission to their MBA, PGDM and other management courses. Almost a lakh aspirants appear for XAT every year. XAT 2018 will be held on 7th January 2018.

XAT 2018 Exam Date


XAT 2018 will be held on 7th January 2018. It will be conducted in a single session from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.

Medium of Examination


XAT 2018 will be conducted in ENGLISH only. 

Mode of Answering


XAT 2018 shall be a Computer-Based Test and thus shall be conducted online. This is the first time that XAT is going to be conducted online. Till 2017, it was an offline Pen-and-Paper Based Test.

XAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria


Educational Qualifications

  • The candidate must have completed his/her graduation (bachelor’s degree) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination from a recognized college or university to be eligible for XAT 2018. The bachelor’s degree must be of minimum 3 years’ duration.
  • Candidates who are in their final year of college are also eligible to apply, provided they graduate on or before 10th June 2018.
  • NRIs and foreign candidates can apply to the institutes with their GMAT scores.

Age Limits

No age restrictions are present in the case of XAT 2018.

XAT 2018 Exam Pattern


The duration of XAT 2018 will be 3.5 hours. The papers shall have objective-type questions (MCQs) except the essay, which shall be descriptive. There will be 2 papers.

Paper 1: General Aptitude Test (GAT)


The 1st paper shall consist of 72 questions and will be of 170 minutes’ duration. The paper I of XAT 2018 further comprises of 3 sections:

Section I: Decision Making.
Section II: English Language & Logical Test.
Section III: Quantitative test.

Each question carries 1 mark and there is a penalty of 0.25 mark for each incorrect answer.

Paper – 2: Essay Writing & GK Test


The 2nd paper of XAT 2018 shall consist of 25 questions and will be of 35 minutes’ duration. The paper II is divided into 2 sections:

Section 1: Essay Writing.
Section 2: General Knowledge.

Negative marking is non-existent in paper II. Similar to paper I, however, 1 mark shall be awarded for each correct answer.

How to Apply for XAT 2018 Exam?


XAT 2018 application portal is online now. The last date of applying for XAT 2018 is 30th November 2017.

XAT 2018 Application Fee


XAT XAT + XLRI
Application during normal window INR 1650 INR 1600 + INR 300 (for each programme)
Late application INR 2000 INR 2000 + INR 500 (for each programme)

 

The application fee can be paid online with

  • Credit Card/Debit Card/Netbanking.
  • Offline at IDBI Bank or through Demand Draft.

If the fee is to be paid offline at IDBI bank, the candidate needs to print the XAT Pay-In Slip and carry it to the bank. The bank transaction ID and date of payment has to be updated in the form before printing the confirmation page.

In the case of demand draft, it has to be drawn in favour of “XLRI Jamshedpur” payable at Jamshedpur.

Photograph and Signature Specifications


  • Photograph – JPG/JPEG/PNG format; Size: Less than 20-50 Kb – 200 X 230 (Preferred).
  • Signature – JPG/JPEG/PNG format; Size: Less than 10-20 Kb – 140 X 60.

Registration Procedure


  1. The candidate has to register on the official XAT website http://forms.xatonline.in/xat2018/ by providing his/her e-mail ID.
  1. The candidate shall receive the auto-generated XAT ID and a temporary password on the registered e-mail ID. The candidate needs to change the password and use that for future logins.
  1. The candidate then needs to fill all the details asked in the application form and upload the scanned signature and photograph, as per the specifications mentioned above.
  1. The candidate then needs to list the order of preference for the different programmes at XLRI Jamshedpur if he/she wishes to apply there.
  1. The candidate then needs to make the final payment in any of the modes mentioned above.
  1. The final step is downloading and printing the XAT registration confirmation page. 

Candidate must enter DD Details such as Name of Bank, DD No. etc in the application form.

XAT 2018 Syllabus


XAT 2018 syllabus has not been announced officially. But we know the broad topics that are asked in XAT every year from previous years’ papers.

Quantitative Ability shall cover topics like number system, geometry, probability, algebra, permutations and combinations etc. It also shall cover Data Interpretation and have questions on bar graphs, charts etc.

Verbal Ability will have questions on reading comprehension, jumbled paragraphs, analogies, grammar, sentence correction etc.Logical Reasoning shall cover everything from family trees to statements and assumptions to matrix arrangements.

Decision Making, which is unique to XAT, tests candidate’s real-life decision-making skills and shall have questions on various situations where managerial skills are needed.

General Knowledge will have questions on current affairs, world history, foreign policy, awards, famous personalities, geography etc.

XAT 2018 Admit Card


XAT 2018 admit card shall be available from 20th December 2017. The admit cards can be downloaded from the official website only. The admit card shall have all the candidate details like the candidate name, name and address of the exam centre, roll number, exam date and time etc. The admit card is mandatory for appearing in the examination and strictly not transferable.

XAT 2018 Answer Key


The official answer key for XAT 2018 shall be available in the 3rd week of January 2018. The answer key will be available on the official website about a week before the actual result declaration, with each candidate’s attempted answers. The candidate scores for each section shall be made available too.

XAT 2018 Results


XAT2018 results shall be announced on 31st January 2018 on the official website. Those who clear the sectional and overall cutoffs for XLRI shall be called for the interview.

XAT 2018 Cut-Offs


The XAT 2018 cutoffs shall be announced along with the results. To give you an idea about the probable cut-offs, here are last year’s cut-offs for the different programmes at XLRI.
