Introduction

National Institute of Fashion Technology or NIFT is a govt run fashion institute in India. The institute was established under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles in 1986 based in Delhi. Currently, the institute offers degree programs in Design, fashion technology, and management with 16 sister campuses across India. For more details, read our article on NIFT.

Entrance exams required

The admission procedures at NIFTs depend on the program for which the candidate is applying. As such, there is no standardized or common process that encompasses all NIFT 2017 admissions. The table below describes the steps followed in the admission process based on each program.

Date of examination

The date of taking the entrance exam for NIFT 2017 admissions for all UG & PG courses is 12th February 2017.

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Courses

Age: Applicant cannot be older than 23 years (28 years for SC/ST/PHP) of age as on 1st October 2016.

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

10+2 Exam:

Applicant must have passed the 10+2 exam from any recognized board in the country.

Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.)

10+2 Exam: Applicant should have passed the 10+2 exam from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects.

Postgraduate Courses

Age: There is no age limit for PG courses at NIFT 2017 admissions.

Masters of Design (M.Des)

Graduation: Applicant must be in possession of UG degree from any recognized university in India.

OR

Applicant must have a diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only.

OR

The applicant must possess an UG 3-year diploma from NIFT/NID.

Master of Fashion technology (M.F.Tech)

Graduation: Applicant should have done either B.Tech/B.E from a recognized university or B.F.Tech from NIFT.

Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)

Graduation: Applicant must have an UG degree from any recognized university/institute.

OR

Applicant must have an UG diploma of 3-years from NIFT/NID.

Candidates studying in 12th std. or final year of graduation is also eligible for NIFT 2017 admissions.

How to Apply?

Application Fee

The application fee for NIFT 2017 admissions was Rs. 1500 for General candidates (Rs. 750 for SC/ST/PHP).

The application fee was to be paid via Debit Card/Credit card, Net banking, and Demand Draft.

Demand Draft Details

The DD was to be made in favor of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

Candidates paying using DD had to send a printout of the form along with DD to the following address.

Application Form

The application form for NIFT 2017 admissions was available only in ONLINE medium and no other form of applications is accepted.

The application portal for NIFT 2017 admissions began functionality on 2nd November 2016 and was closed on 10th January 2017. Candidates used the link https://applyadmission.net/nift2017 for applying.

The last date of applying for NIFT 2017 admissions with late fee of Rs. 5,000 was 16th January 2017.

Entrance Exam Pattern

Both CAT and GAT were 3-hour long tests. The GAT comprises of MCQs where the candidate has to choose the correct option out of 4 choices. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

GAT (General Ability Test)

The GAT score is used to judge the general awareness and problem-solving ability of the candidate. GAT comprises of 5 sections which include the following depending upon the course the candidate is applying for.

 Creative Ability Test (CAT)

The test is administered to judge the ability of students to create something new and also the way they use different colors to represent their creativity.

Situation test

The second stage of the NIFT 2017 admissions is the situation test. Situation test will basically test candidate’s ability of how he/she innovates with the given set of materials or props. It also judges the material handling and understanding ability of a candidate.

The scores of both the tests are used to calculate the merit of each candidate. This merit is further used to choose candidates for next round (if any). Also, the merit is given weight age (as mentioned before) in calculating the final merit.

Admit Cards

Admit cards for NIFT 2017 admissions were available on the NIFT website from 23rd January 2017.

Result

The final result of NIFT 2017 admissions have been published. Candidates can check their result on http://applyadmission.net/nift2017/NIFT2017_WrittenTest.asp.
