This article lists all the important topics & subjects included in the CAT 2018 Syllabus. The CAT 2018 syllabus, based on CAT 2017, has been detailed below. The major topics covered in the syllabus include Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, English Language Skills among others. CAT 2018 official notification hasn’t been released as of yet but is going to release in the last week of July 2018 tentatively.

Quantitative Aptitude


  • Number System: GCD, LCM Remainder Theorems etc.
  • Percentage.
  • Ratio, Proportions & Variations.
  • Progressions i.e. Arithmetic Progression (AP), Geometric Progression (GP), Harmonic Progressions (HP) etc.
  • Permutation & Combination.
  • Probability.
  • Simple & Compound Interest.
  • Profit and Loss.
  • Mixture and Alligation.
  • Speed, Time and Distance.
  • Time & Work.
  • Mensuration.
  • Geometry: Straight Lines, Polygons, Triangles, Circles, Ellipses etc.
  • Coordinate Geometry.
  • Averages.
  • Functions i.e. Logarithms, Even & Odd, Representation etc.
  • Inequalities.
  • Quadratic Equations.
  • Set Theory.

A total of 34 questions (24 MCQs & 10 Non-MCQs) will be presented in this section. Each question will carry 3 marks each. A wrong answer will result in 1 mark deduction.

The duration of this section will be 1-hour.

Data Interpretation


  • Data Tables.
  • Bar Charts.
  • Pie Charts.
  • Graphs (Line, Area).
  • Venn Diagram.
  • Data Analysis.

The section along with Reasoning questions will have a total of 30 questions (22 MCQs & 08 Non-MCQs).

Same marking scheme will be followed as QA section.

Analytical Reasoning Section


  • Arrangements-based questions.
  • Puzzles.
  • Syllogisms
  • Set Theory.
  • Venn Diagrams.
  • Binary Logic
  • Sequences and Series
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction Test.
  • Data Structures.
  • Clocks and Calendars
  • Coding – Decoding.
  • Assertion and Reason.

Language Skills (English)


  • Reading Comprehension.
  • Para jumbles.
  • Synonyms.
  • Antonyms.
  • Fill in the Blanks.
  • Idioms.
  • Error-Spotting.
  • One-word Substitutions.
  • Analogies.

The section will have 34 question (24 MCQs & 10 Non-MCQs). Other particulars will be same as other section.
