Introduction 

CTET Exam i.e. Central Teacher Eligibility Test is a national-level school teacher employability test conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The exam is conducted twice a year, recruiting teachers for class I to VIII in central govt schools. In September 2016, a total of 2 lakh candidates registered for Paper I of CTET and another 4 lakh registered for Paper II of CTET.

Date of Examination

In 2016, the CTET exam was conducted twice, first in February and then in September. However, this year, no exam date has been released as of yet.

Type of Examination 

CTET Exam is conducted offline, and thus it is a pen and paper exam. The questions asked in the exam are MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) type. 

Language of Examination

CTET Exam is a bilingual examination conducted in both English and Hindi.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who are appearing for CTET Exam in order to teach students from Class I-V must qualify under any of the five criteria mentioned below:

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known),

Or

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002

Or

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

Or

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education),

Or

  1. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)

Candidates who are appearing for CTET Exam in order to teach students from Class VI-VIII must qualify under either of the five criteria-

  1. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), or
  2. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). OR Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard, or
  3. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), or
  4. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed, or
  5. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/ PH Candidates:

Candidates under SC/ST/OBC/PH categories are given a relaxation of 5 per cent in eligibility percentage of marks.

CTET is conducted in the following cities listed below. But the candidate needs to provide three choices from the list. And examination center is allocated depending on the availability of seats.

How to Apply? 

In order to apply for the CTET Exam, a candidate needs to follow the following procedure.

  1. Login to official website ctet.nic.in. From September 2016, all the applications are required to follow the online channel.
  1. Click on the ‘Apply Online’ tab on the website.
  1. Once you click the apply link, you will be directed to an application form. Fill in all the details in the application form.
  1. Upload your latest photograph and signature in the required area of the application form.
  1. Pay the examination fees via e-challan/debit card/ credit card.
  1.  Print the e-receipt for future reference purposes. 
Photograph and Signature Specifications 

Candidate needs to update his/her latest photograph and signature in the application form strictly in JPG Format while applying for CTET Exam.

Admit Card 

Admit Card can be downloaded from the official website 30 days prior the exam.

Examination Pattern

The CTET exam comprises of two papers – Paper I & Paper II. Each of these papers are 2 hours 30 minutes.

If the candidate clears Paper I, he/she shall become eligible to teach students from Class I to Class V, however, if a candidate has cleared both Paper I and Paper II, then he/she will become eligible to teach students from Class I to Class VIII.

Result

CBSE declares the result of CTET Exams in 45 to 60 days after the examination date. CTET Scores are valid for a period of 7 years from the date of declaration of result.
