What is TANCET?


Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test, or TANCET, is a state-level entrance examination conducted every year by the Anna University, Chennai, along with the Government of Tamil Nadu. By taking this test, candidates can admit to ME, M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Plan, MCA and MBA courses of Tamil Nadu State.  In 2017, close 50K students took the TANCET 2017 examination. TANCET 2018 application portal is open now.

Type of Examination


TANCET 2018 will be an offline (Pen/Paper) type of examination i.e. OMR sheets will be used as answer sheets.

TANCET 2018 Exam Date


The exam date for TANCET 2018 is 19th May 2018 for M.B.A/M.C.A courses and 20th May 2018 for M.E. /M.Tech. /M.Arch. / M.Plan. courses.

Medium of Examination


TANCET 2018 will be conducted in English language only.

TANCET 2018 Eligibility Criteria


For M.Tech/M.E/M.Arch/M.Plan courses


Candidate must have secured at least 50% marks (45% for those who belong to reserved categories) in the relevant degree examinations. Following degrees are considered relevant:

  1. B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch or,
  2. Pharm. or,
  3. Master’s in relevant branch of Science/Arts or,
  4. 10+2+AMIE or,
  5. 10+3 + AMIE.

For MBA course


Candidate in possession of Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline with minimum 50% marks (45% for reserved categories). Either of the following is considered relevant:

  1. 10+2+3 or,
  2. 10+3 year Diploma + 3 or,
  3. E/B.Tech/B.Arch./B.Pharm or,
  4. 10+2+AMIE or,
  5. 10+3+AMIE.

For MCA course


Obtained Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of minimum 3 years with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level securing 50% marks (45% marks for reserved category).

  1. 10+2+3/4 or,
  2. 10+3 year Diploma + 3 or,
  3. 10+2+AMIE or,
  4. 10+3+AMIE.

For MCA (Lateral Entry)


In Possession of Bachelor’s degree in B.Sc (Computer Science/Information Technology), BCA with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level.

Candidates should have secured 50% marks (45% for reserved category candidates) in the qualifying examination.

Candidates in the final year of study are also eligible to appear for TANCET exam 2018.

Candidates belonging to other states are also eligible to apply for TANCET, however, they must read the eligibility criteria laid down by each Institute before appearing.

TANCET 2018 Application Form


TANCET 2018 application portal is close now. 

Only one application form will be accepted for all three courses offered by TANCET 2018.

Application Fee


An application fee of Rs.500 (Rs.250 for Reserved category) must be paid by candidates applying for a single program.

Candidates applying for more than one program must pay Rs. 500 towards each program as application fee.

The application fee can be paid through online mediums only.

Registration Process


  • Now, register as a new user through the registration link by providing personal details such as name, email id, password and other requested details.
  • After successfully registering, log in by entering the email ID and password submitted during registration. Now complete the remaining application form.
  • Fill all the required details and also upload a recent colored passport sized photograph.
  • Pay the application fee through online mediums.
  • Take a print out of the completed application form and keep it safe for future references.

TANCET 2018 Hall Ticket


Students can download their TANCET 2018 Hall tickets from the website in 1st week of May 2018.

TANCET 2018 Exam Pattern


TANCET 2018 written test will be 2 hours long bearing 100 questions (MBA/MCA) and 115 in the case of M.E/M.Tech/M.Plan./M.Arch.

1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer and (1/3) marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

TANCET MBA 2018 Pattern


The question paper for MBA admissions shall have the following sections:

  1. Reading Passages.
  2. English Grammar.
  3. Data Interpretation.
  4. Mathematics.

TANCET MCA 2018 Pattern


The question paper for MCA admissions shall have the following sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability.
  2. Analytical Ability.
  3. Computer Awareness.
  4. Logical Reasoning.

M.E/M.Tech./M.Arch/M.Plan


TANCET question paper for M.E/M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan exam will have 3 parts:

Part I & II will have 55 questions based on discipline applying for, however, part III shall have 60 questions based on the subject chosen at the time of registration.

TANCET Exam 2018 is expected to be held in the following cities:

TANCET 2018 Results


The result of the examination have been declared on 8th June 2018. Candidates are advised to download their score cards from the website and save it till the completion of the admission process.

TANCET 2018 Counselling


The counseling process of TANCET will start in the month of July. After the announcement of results, candidates who have passed the test can appear in the TANCET counseling sessions.

The below-mentioned documents are required to appear in the counseling process:

  1. Character Certificate/Bonafide/Conduct
  2. Category certificate.
  3. Domicile Certificate (State of Domicile)
  4. 10th Marks list.
  5. Qualifying Examination marks list and passing certificate (proof of degree).
  6. TANCET 2018 Admit card/Hall ticket.
  7. TANCET 2018 Score Card.
