Application portal for MAT exam 2017 September is open now.

What is MAT?

Management Aptitude Test or MAT exam is a national-level standardized test for admission to a huge pool of management colleges (other than IIMs & XLRI) in India.  The exam was started back in 1988 to unify and aid the admission process at colleges other than IIMs. Unlike its big brother CAT (Common Aptitude Test), the MAT exam is usually conducted 4-times a year. These 4-times include February, May, September and December. AIMA or All India Management Association is the whole sole authority when it comes to conducting the MAT exam. Currently, over 600+ management institutes consider MAT scores for MBA/PGDM admissions in India.

MAT Exam

The formal introduction made above is what most of us know. But for most students, the major question still remains unanswered – Why MAT? How is MAT better than CAT?

Well, I would like to put forward 3 arguments in this respect.

  1. MAT is conducted 4-times a year. Hence, more opportunities.
  2. MAT scores are considered by 600+ management institutes in India. This number is huge when it comes to CAT which is basically a doorway to only 22 IIMs.
  3. Again, admission to IIMs isn’t a cakewalk. Not everybody can crack CAT. You need work experience, CAT percentiles, 12th std marks… basically, you need everything. Still, you may not get the IIMs.

On the contrary, MAT exam is easier to crack, it has more opportunities to offer and moreover, you get certain good colleges, though not IIMs, but still, they are good.

The last date of applying for MAT 2017 September exam is 25th August 2017. Further, if an application is filled via an offline mode then it must reach the AIMA office on or before 25th August 2017.

The application for the same was available at https://apps.aima.in/matsept17.

The complete procedure was a combination of following 4 steps:

  1. Registration.
  2. Filling in the application form.
  3. Uploading of images (optional).
  4. Payment of Fee.

Step 1: Registration

Start the step by following the link https://apps.aima.in/matsept17/Registration.aspx. Upon reaching the designated page, the candidate would be asked about basic details such as Name, Email Id, DOB and valid contact number. Enter the relevant details and proceed by clicking on “Submit” button to successfully register you. A confirmation email detailing about the candidate’s registration would be sent by AIMA. After successful registration, a candidate may either immediately proceed with step 2 or may complete it later.

Step 2: Filling in the application form

After completing the first stage, the candidates now have to provide AIMA with their complete personal details such as Father’s name, Mother’s Name, Address for correspondence etc. Please enter each detail with extreme care avoiding mistakes. Finalize your data by clicking on “Save” button. Candidates can choose to edit this information at any time later by simply logging in (before payment).

Also at this stage, the candidate would be asked if he/she wanted to upload documents at this stage or not. If you choose “Y” then, keep the documents ready.

Step 3: Documents Uploading (OPTIONAL)

This step, as mentioned, is OPTIONAL in nature. The candidate can either choose to upload documents on the website or can paste the photo and sign the form before sending the hard copy to AIMA. In both ways, the form is considered as right. The specification for the photo and signature are mentioned above.

Step 4: Fee Payment

This was the last stage of MAT 2017 September application. At this stage, the candidate had to pay the application fee for the MAT exam i.e. Rs. 1,652. The candidate could choose to pay this fee either through online modes or offline mode.

After paying the application fee, the candidate would not be allowed to edit his/her application form under any circumstance. Therefore, it was advisable to check the application form before paying the fee.
