Introduction 


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is a national-level entrance examination for admission into the post-graduate programs of the top Engineering institutes in the country, including the IITs and IISc. GATE is conducted by the IITs or IISc every year on a rotation basis. The GATE score remains valid for 3 years and is considered by the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other government organizations for their recruitment procedure as well. Almost a million students appear for GATE every year. GATE 2019 notification will tentatively be released in the 1st week of September 2018.

GATE 2019 Exam Date


GATE 2019 will be tentatively held in the 1st and 2nd weeks of February 2019.

Medium of Examination


GATE exam 2019 will be conducted in ENGLISH only. 

Mode of Examination


GATE exam 2019 shall be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and thus shall be conducted online.

GATE 2019 Eligibility Criteria


Nationality


Candidates from either of the following countries can apply for the GATE Examination:

  • India or
  • Nepal or
  • Bangladesh or
  • Sri-Lanka or
  • Singapore or
  • Ethiopia or
  • The United Arab Emirates.

Graduation Degree


The candidate must have completed his/her graduation (bachelor’s degree) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination from a recognized college or university. Candidates with the following degrees or in the final year of these can apply for GATE 2019:

  • BE/B.Tech./B.Pharma
  • Arch
  • BSc (Research)/BS
  • MSc/MA/MCA
  • Integrated ME/M.Tech (post BSc)
  • Integrated ME/M.Tech/Dual Degree Program (B.Tech + M.Tech)
  • Integrated MSc/ BS/MS
  • Integrated BS/MS
  • Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch)

GATE 2019 Age Limit


There is no age limit for taking GATE exam.

GATE 2019 Exam Pattern 


The duration of GATE 2019 will be 3 hours or 180 minutes.

The paper shall have both objective-type questions (MCQs)and numerical answer type questions (NATs).

There shall be 65 questions from 3 areas in the paper:

  • Engineering Mathematics (15%),
  • General Aptitude (15%)
  • Engineering Discipline (70%).

There are 23 different papers available in GATE, out of which a candidate can sit for only one. General Aptitude is common across all papers.

While there is no negative marking for the NATs, 1/3rd and 2/3rd mark will be deducted for wrong answers for the 1 mark and 2 marks MCQs respectively.

Candidates are not allowed to carry any physical calculator with them. There shall be a virtual calculator that they can use during the exam. 

How to Apply?


No official notification has currently been released regarding GATE 2019.

GATE 2019 Application Fee


The application fee for the GATE 2019 shall be as follows:

SC/ST/PWD Candidates Rs.750
General/OBC Male Candidates Rs.1500
International Candidates US$ 50

The application fee is the same for all International candidates, irrespective of category.

Candidates can make the payment online (Netbanking/credit card/debit card) or offline (e-Challan).

  • Photograph – JPG/JPEG/PNG format; Size: 5-200 KB
  • Signature – JPG/JPEG/PNG format; Size: 5-150 KB
  • Left Thumb Impression – Size: 2-150 KB
  • Caste or Disability certificate (PDF format) in case of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates; Size:10-300 KB
  • Provisional certificate (PDF format) in case of final year candidates; Size:10-300 KB.

Admit Card


GATE admit card 2019 shall be available in 1st week of January 2019. The admit cards can be downloaded from the official website.

GATE 2019 Answer Key


The answer key for GATE is made available on the official website just a few days after the exam every year. The GATE 2019 answer key shall be available in February 2019, after the exam.

Results


GATE results 2019 shall be announced in March 2019 on the official website.

GATE 2019 Score Card


The candidates can download their GATE 2019 scorecard right from the official website from March till May 2019, once the results are declared. The scorecard remains valid for 3 years from the day of the declaration of the results.

GATE 2019 Counselling


The counselling for various institutes shall begin in April 2019. The process is separate for each IIT and thus the candidates need to apply separately to each. In NITs, there is central counselling for admission to their post-graduate programs.
